I really like tarot and astrology. ouo I also really like birth charts!

I've read over my extensive birth chart multiple times, I practice tarot myself, and have even payed for a couple of readings before. I am personally very much of the mind that it's a really cool and fun thing that can give some great insight into one's self, whether or not any tarot readings end up being accurate. You might call it more of a hobby, on my part, something I take semi-seriously and something I continue to study on the side.

So I thought it would be cool to start a friendly discussion about it! I can answer any questions anyone might have, and I want to know about the experiences you guys have had! I might even give out some readings if anyone is interested! Do any of you practice tarot? Do you have a favourite deck, or a favourite card? What got you into it? What are your signs? (Or what is your sign, if you only know the one haha. For you all, your "Sun" sign is the one sign you would know.)

____________

Answering my own questions:

In my case, my dad showed me the tarot when I was really young, and told me stories about how he was so good at it that he actually scared himself. Now, my dad thinks he's "scary good" at absolutely everything... but as a kid that really put stars in my eyes, and I decided I wanted to be as good as he was. I even remember another impression I'd had of tarot as a young kid that actually came from the Jump Start games with Frankie the dog. I don't have any clue which game, but somehow they'd had like a little tarot game at one point, and I remember thinking the backs of the cards were beautiful.

I actually have aspirations of making my own decks, as well! I have a couple of ideas, but one in particular that's really special.

I don't personally have a "favourite" deck right now! I have two decks, the Dragon Tarot and the Robin Wood Tarot. The dragon tarot is gorgeous but useless for a novice, and the robin wood is beautiful and practical, based on the king of all decks the Rider Waite, but for me the robin wood leans a little too positive. I'm looking for a new deck, but haven't had much luck yet. As for my favorite card, however - There are a lot of cards I really like in the tarot, like The Moon, The Star, and The Hermit, but I have to say actually that my absolute favourite card is the Two of Swords.

Also, my sun sign is Pisces, which... if you know a little about Pisces then this post probably suddenly made a lot of sense to you. My moon is Virgo, and my Ascendant/Rising is Aquarius~

What about you guys?!:star::Princesssparkle:

I used to read tarot, though I didn't have the confidence to read for anyone but myself.

I have a tarot deck and book (Celtic Shapeshifter) collecting dust that I'm looking to rehome. Perhaps next time I scrape up a little dough, I'll see if anyone is interested.

I need to refamilarize myself with runes again.

I do better with dream interpretation.

Oh I'm an Aquarian Water Pig.

Tarot and astrology are so fun! I don't personally know too much about them but my friends do so I know my birth chart. I'm a pisces sun, scorpio moon, cancer rising. As for tarot, I recently played an RPG game called Wickedness that uses tarot cards to move the story forward. I had a great time

-nods- I've been practicing alone for a long time as well. I'm only just starting to think about branching out and trying to practice with others. MLPTP is one of the very few places I would be okay trying it.

Ohh, interesting! I decided to take a look at the deck, it's not one I've seen before. It looks like they've inverted the elements of swords and wands, for some reason, but they're quite pretty!

Runes are interesting, too! They seem to be more direct than tarot. My mother used to practice them, I never ended up getting any, myself. It's a bit different, but I have wanted to try scrying, as well. Did you buy your runes, or make them yourself?

Dream interpretation is quite fun. It's definitely very personal. I got tired of interpreting mine though since they were usually nightmares referring to the same things. Do you interpret others' dreams or only your own?

Aquarius for the win. Pig? Oh! The eastern astrology, of course. I'm a Wood Dog in eastern! Grounded and loyal. What are the traits of the pig, do you know?

Holy crap hahahahaha, all three of your major signs are water. You are a water powerhouse!

Ohh, that looks quite unique. Tarot-esque cards as a card game? as far as I can tell?

I've found that a lot of video games really don't do well with tarot cards though. They usually come up with their own random cards with random meanings, absent of any understanding of tarot. I know a lot of games love to use the "Death" card as the ominous kind of thing that means someone will die, but that's a misunderstanding and misuse of the card. Even Cardcaptor Sakura completely misses the mark, and their "tarot" are a big part of the show. I would really love to come across a game or show that uses tarot cards correctly.

My first set of runes I made, and they worked very well for me. Unfortunately they got burned. My second set I bought and never really got around to connecting to them properly.

Pigs are sensitive, thoughtful, generous, hedonistic, loving, stubborn, easily stepped on, a little lazy, underestimated, and temperamental.

I interpret my dreams and others.

I wish you luck in learning to read for others. It's definitely daunting.

Aw, losing your original runes like that is kinda sad. Do you think you might get back into it at some point, or are you okay with leaving things the way they have ended up?

I see!

Ooohh, that's cool! Are you particular about who you do dream interpretations for?

Thank you! It is a little bit, but I think as long as I'm forthright about being new to reading for others and ask for patience and feedback it'll be okay. c:

I'm not picky about interpreting, not an expert by any means though, very much an amateur. Alot of it is simple symbolism.

I've been planning to get back into it.

Having a sounding board and honest feedback while your learning to read for others sounds like a good plan.

Wickedness is kind of like dungeons and dragons but instead of dice you use tarot cards. The challenges you face are based on which minor arcana you draw, and certain larger plot points and character traits are based on major arcana

Haha, then maybe it would be fun if I could share my dreams with you some time and see what you come up with :b They're really weird and freaky/creepy. If you can handle horror it might be interesting for you, too :D

Ohh, that's lovely!

That does sound quite fun! I've been wanting to play a TTRPG for years and haven't been able to find a group, even despite my reservations it sounds like they've used the tarot for a pretty fun mechanic.

Yes! And you only need 3 people. And there’s no person “running” the game, it’s collaborative. Super fun and doesn’t take too long

Oh, my gosh. No GM would be nice, so would the small group-

And while looking into it I came upon a Charmed reference with "the power of three will set us free" oh my god. -gives shifty looks to the person who made this game- That show was one I really liked as a kid too haha.

Anyway it kinda looks like there's no way to get the PDF now.

I don't really practice tarot, or follow astrology too deeply, but I do enjoy it and find it fun. :3

On the astrology side of things, I'm an Aries sun, with an Aquarius moon. Not 100% sure of my ascendant/rising sign; I'd have to look it up again - it's buried in some book *somewhere*...) For the Chinese zodiac, I'm an earth Horse! :D

As said, I don't really practice tarot, but I do have 1 deck, and I have done a few simple 3-card readings for myself. The deck I have is this gorgeous The Last Unicorn deck that I bought through kickstarter. You can officially get it on Geekify's website: here. No favourite card, but the entire deck (and the wooden box) is lovely!

Oh my GOD I saw that last unicorn deck before!! Aaaahhh! It truly is so gorgeous but... wait, it calls itself a tarot and oracle card deck? That is.... you could argue that a lot of game/show-based decks are that, but that's the first time I've seen anyone actually advertise it as such. I am not sure what to think about that.

Either way, that's awesome that you were able to get it! I would love to get the deck, and honestly the entire set of extras too, but I can't even remotely afford the base deck sadly. ;u;

Anyway, I understand that haha. The ascendant is one of the more difficult ones to find out in the first place, too.

all i know about tarot & astrology is that my birth sign is aquarius... and it's weird that its an air sign.
It is, isn't it? xD Aquarius is even referred to as "the water bearer".
Something else that's striking me about it is that just about everyone who's posted for far has had Aquarius as a major sign.

According to the hilarious(ly accurate) book born on a rotten day, we Aquarians are supposed to be the tornado that took Dorothy to Oz. Lolol
What? xD

There's an astrology book called Born On a Rotten Day. It lays bare every sign's "less charming personality traits" all while letting the readers have a good laugh at themselves.

Aaahhh, that could be a pretty funny read. I've seen things like that before, usually when I go down random rabbit holes about Pisces things. It's bugging me that there was one in particular I really liked and I can't remember it.

Well now I just HAVE to post/link this. XD

Oh my god why, I love it
But why couldn't the age of Pisces had something like this haha, I think when Pisces took the throne for a while everyone just groaned and got very afraid.

I don’t really understand astrology but I find it interesting even if I don’t totally believe what some readings may say. Sometimes a certain talk show on TV when I wake up has some man doing readings and I feel lost when he talks about planets too but it feels like something cool to understand. Back in my second year of college a girl used to do tarot readings at the back of the class a lot. I think she was just starting out

I did try to find out more about what else mine may be (the air/water/earth/metal thing) but I can’t remember, I should find out. I am also in club Aquarius too. Are we all Aquarius here then?

I don’t know where Chinese zodiac signs come in to this but mine is a rabbit.

I don’t know or understand much but it is a pretty interesting thing :rolleyespony:
