Article. A bit easier to understand than a few others I've seen circulating.
A small TL;DR is that the government is unhappy with the reduced postal rates that were in place while China was still industrializing and wishes to raise these rates.
Does clarify it is intended to cut down on counterfeit goods and general trade with China.
Quote:
"If the US withdraws, small businesses that sell online to customers around the world could see service disruptions and dramatically increased costs for shipping through the US Postal Service - all heading into the holiday season."
It looks like Stamps.com is already trying to get some competitive international shipping. That the rates may start October 1st makes me a bit fearful for the swaps we're currently doing.

Sooooo obnoxious they should be thankful people are still sending through them and not just doing UPS/DHL/FedEx. Ugh!

We may have to look at third party carriers! I'm intimidated by them and they're always super expensive, the silver lining is that THEIR international rates may go down as they try to be competitive...but they also might not.
I love doing swaps internationally and shopping different services sounds risky...I'd like to not have to risk it.

The USPS has just steadily gone downhill. They should be trying to EXPAND and IMPROVE not DOWNGRADE and GET WORSE.

*flops about in anger*

They drive me crazy. They can barely get anything from point A to point B anymore. I might just go bite a mailman in protest.

Do you think this will effect buying on ebay? Will the prices increase by a couple dollars or go Canada style? Or is this a global matter?
This effects anything involving the USPS, so as long as people keep using that shipping through them it will effect all.
We don't know exactly what will happen. We need to wait until the 30th to see if the proposed terms are agreed upon, and then find out what exactly will happen. Either way, China's ePacket shipping is going to be hurt a lot and I'm sure imported goods stateside (so like...all of our plastic goods basically) will increase at some point.

UPDATE
"“Once a country declares their rate, exporting countries will have to factor that cost; it means that cost will be transferred to the person sending that item ... When you are in a country and you buy items overseas, the end-customer will definitely have to pay a higher price.“ "

So.... when’s your next presidential election? This whole thing reads as if it’s a big “f” you to China <3 Trump. But in the meantime also messing with everyone else.

From what I understand it won’t be much difference for the individual person shipping something. It’s more for companies who regularly send large shipments.
