Unfortunately for my heart I can never deny a dog a home. Taking in injured, abused, elderly dogs... I have a lot of losses. Some little dogs just cling closer to your being, I guess. I love them all, yet a few stand firmer in memory and cling to my ankles longer. Pinky was one of the saddest cases I'd ever have arrive and in the 17 years I owned her (or rather she owned me) she made an inedible mark on my spirit. In ways, it's like she never left me, until I see her little bed. Empty. Then I sense her physical absence more profoundly than ever. Coupled with the loss of my aunt, my house is a sad echo of remorse right now.I'll never own an American Eskimo, black and white shih tzu, or Yorkshire terrier ever again... or an Egyptian Mau, Persian cross, or Scottish fold, too. Oh, or any Missouri Fox trotter. The pain is always there.
