What do you wish you knew before you mailed your first pony?

It looks like I'm going to be sending a lot of pony mail going forward, so I figure it's a good idea to ask the experts: what mistakes should I avoid when packing and sending ponies? Any advice is appreciated!!

Prices (at least in the US) are most affected by distance traveling and package size (less so weight). So the smaller you can package a thing safely the better. My ponies are all in plastic ziploc bags (because I have an irrational fear of the package getting wet with something gross and contaminating the pony) and bubble wrapped. And I second Pirate Ship!

I bought my own scale and ship through PayPal cause it’s a little cheaper

No newspaper or printed paper touching the ponies

Anything under 1lb is 1st class, anything over is priority

Wrap ponies in bubble wrap aswell in the bubble mailer, or just make sure it has something around it so it’s not just in the bubble mailer - seems people don’t like that

This are just the things I’ve gathered

I once got a very expensive pony wrapped in scented tissue paper. I have very sensitive skin and I broke out in hives. Even after washing her so many times I couldn’t get rid of the smell she came with.

Always always ship internationally using a new box. Saving the environment is admirable, but a reused box is a big gamble for a pony on a long journey u_u

they actually got rid of 1st class USPS combined 1st class and partial select to ground advantage it is cheaper and comes with up to $100 insurance

I wish I knew about "signing up for a small business card" that saved me a ton of money in the long run. Plus my packages got to where they needed to go faster.

If you gave them a trip to the spa, make sure they're completely dried before packing up.

And for the exterior of the package/parcel itself, make sure all flaps/closures are fully sealed and securely taped so nothing can fall out. Also PRINT the addresses very clearly on the front of the package.
omg, ive gotten packages that are miraculously held together with one piece of tap, thankfully i didnt lose anything inside

This is very specific, but USPS Hungary doesn't notify recipients properly. I've had two packages turned back. No call, no text, no email. I was only emailed when they sent the package back to the seller.

This!! I'm usually pretty careful, but was embarrassed when a pony I shipped ended up being wet inside and the buyer freaked out and thought all of the other ponies in the package would break out in mold. I think she may have tipped over during the drying process (I used to dry mine butt-side down so the water drained out the tail hole) since all the other ponies I cleaned at the same time were fine.
