OK, i wanted to see what the opinions of people are...

Basically, I was thinking about the condition of ponies, personally i like my ponies to be nice and minty...

I know not everyone is fussy over how there ponies are, and having a pony in any condition is nice (also really valid) its a nice way to collect a rare pony at a good price etc

But, heres the thing i don't get some nirvana ponies are pretty grotty, some places the ponies come from really susceptible to brittle hair, or other things. so there not always minty.... but people still pay ALOT of money for them. I know, there harder to find, the colours can be very different from US/UK, i do under stand that bit lol, but i don't understand why the prices can go so high?

Each to there own and all that, but, lmk what your opinion is, id love to find out more about other peoples motivations!

Ill add a poll too!

I pretty much pick up anything if it's cheap. I LOVE Nirvanas.. but I just can't afford them. (Ok.. so I have 2 versions of white Tootsie and the CP Applejack and Bowtie if they count) If it's under $10 and unusual.. I probably want it! I have quite a few "baits" that are just fine for me! Heck.. my Lemon Treats was sold to me as bait because she has a mouse chew on her lip! I don't care! LOL

to me I dont mind what shape they are in, if its a pony I will take it!
I like the mints better but I dont mind finding a dirty or scrached uppony like at a yard sale or something, thats a win for me!

my goal is to have every pony there is... starting with all the US, MO and internationals.... Nirvanas will come later.... and when I have gotten one each I will start to upgrade the once that needs to.....:eek:k:

I gravitate towards cheap, baity ponies... It needs not be mint for me. In fact, it would be a mistake to give me something that's MIB/MOC, because I would open it up right away. XDD

I don't really have any international ponies besides those from the UK (Honeycomb and co.) However, I do like them, I just don't like the prices, so I don't go after them.

The bad condition would not keep me from buying one if it was reasonably priced, but then again I am not that much of a picky collector.

I've actually become more picky as time goes by- not only in collecting but in other aspects of my life. It's definitely evident with collecting. I used to wow over a bait G1, but now I'll go for the Good-Mint ones. I don't buy mint unless it's (again) reasonably priced.

However, as loveislost said, nothing beats finding a pony at a thrift store or garage sale, even if it's in really bad condition.

I'd prefer that they be in good or mint condition, but if it is one I really like, then as long as their painted features are in decent condition, I'd probably go for it :) I don't mind spending a little time to fix one up.

Prices do worry me so I wouldn't buy a 'rare' pony in poor condition just to have it no matter how much I liked it unless it was really reasonably priced.

I don't like restoring rare variants. I like mine to be as mint as I can get. That said, I do not mind flat-ironing their hair or sunfading them, but I don't want a rehaired or repainted pony in my collection (unless she's super-cheap and not high on my wishlist anyway). They're hard enough to find as it is, and I won't settle for less than as mint as I can get.* You'd be surprised by how nicely a previously "baity" pony turns out with a little attention and a lot of conditioner.

For normal easy to find HK ponies, I don't mind rehairing, but I don't like rehairing or repairing rarer ones if I can avoid it.

*The exception is Spain Milky Way. Even MOC her stars fade away to nothing, so getting one repainted is about the only way to get one with stars. For the record, yes, I have one, yes, she will be restored, no, she will not be restored by me.

If it's on my wish list, I'm not terribly picky about condition if I can get it at a good price. As long as there are no major problems like seriously cut hair (I'm terrible at rehairing), missing body parts, missing symbols or lots of ink, I good with it.

Most of the time I buy in lots and then pick through them and decide which is the best conditioned individual. That's the one I keep. I'm constantly upgrading and have now gotten a lot of very minty ponies at low prices that way. Of course my childhood sets I won't upgrade from and in some cases have two (one for display and one for sentimental reasons).

I have no problem picking up a pony that isn't in good condition if the price is right. I have ponies in my collection that many other collectors would probably just consider custom bait, but they are ponies that I needed from my want list that I was able to find for very cheap prices.

That being said, I'm not really into collecting Nirvanas at this point. There are still so many regular US/UK-issue ponies that I need that those will keep me busy for a long time still to come. Even with the Nirvanas that I really like, I'd probably be much more likely to just either make or commission a custom version depending on the price that they go for (like Blue Lickety).
