Fair Pony Undercutting Resolved x-posted

Hmm. I don't think it would go over too well for them to just send a different pony. Why not just come clean, say "we screwed up", and either give a full refund, or a *choice* of something else, and in either case maybe give a generous store credit/coupon (that could be used toward the sdcc pony... Heh heh) to say "sorry for the inconvenience"? Well, it will be interesting to see what happens with the orders that got through before they took it down. And some poor schmoe will be getting a crummy performance review... :nodno:

I would be hella PO'ed if they sent me some other random pony as a substitute for that one, considering I spend $20 on it and a regular single pony is $4.99.

I don't know, I think the best way to make up for the mistake would be to issue a refund saying "out of stock" and then send out a coupon code to apologize for the inconvenience. I dunno. I guess we'll see in a few days.

did anyone but me have time to get an order in, or am I the only guinea pig?

Interesting. This could mean one of two things. 1. They accidentally sold part of the UK Pony Con's stash (unless the Con organizers already have them in hand!) or 2. Hasbro will have to ship a different pony to those who ordered this 2011 Exclusive online. They can't just charge and not give anything, so it's got to be one of those two options, right? Unless there's a third, unknown option.

Well, don't shoot me, but I have a SPECULATION as to what a third option might be... My SPECULATION is that Hasbro may have "accidentally" overproduced the Fair Pony this year. So sure, they produced 500 for the MLP Fair in the U.S., and another certain amount for the U.K. Convention, but perhaps they made more ponies than that way beforehand from an overestimation of how many they thought each convention would want... For example, maybe they estimated that the U.S. MLP Fair would order 1000 ponies from them (so they produced that many for them), but the Fair ended up ordering only 500? So thus they might have extra Fair ponies around... That might explain the Fair Ponies that showed up in stores in Asia about a month before the Fair... Those must have been excess ponies produced in over-estimation of how much they thought/hoped each fair/convention would order from them. So yeah, my speculation is that Hasbro might really have extra Fair ponies around that they're trying to get rid of. (Who knows? Those extras might just end up as more ponies to be sold in stores in Asia...)

Well that's an odd mistake. I know the cost of the fair pony helps toward the cost of the fair itself. So I buy them from the fair. And I'll agree on more guest seating at future pony fairs. I seems only vendors have a seat that they paid for.

I ordered two, wanting to see what would happen because I was so sure it was a mistake ( two to make the overall cost per pony lower due to shipping). When the order went through, I figured well, first we'll see if they actually ship these things, and if they do, well then this way I can justify deboxing one ( i am big on deboxing... But not the fair ponies in their beautiful packaging, so this pleases me immensely lol), and will sell the other for the fair price and send the overage to Summer, because I feel like it belongs to the fair, and I'm hoping this was just a real big ooopsie on Hasbro's part. I did purchase three at the fair, as well: one for me, DB, and an extra in case someone who didn't go "needs one".

I ordered one to see what would happen. I actually didn't think it would go through. When I checked the order on hasbrotoyshop, it says that the pony is shipped. I guess I'll just wait to see what happens.

they might just refund....

Don't know if that's still an option at this point as several people who purchased them online got an invoice yesterday that says it's already shipped.

I got an itemized invoice this morning saying it all shipped. =/

I hope this doesn't happen, but honestly, I wouldn't put it past them to ship a different pony. They've done it before, albeit under slightly different circumstances. I'm not saying it's going to happen, I'm just saying it's a possibility if it was such a mistake.

However, Jupiter has some good points in her speculation about the overstock. That would explain why it's the first Fair exclusive to show up overseas first. That's happened with Comicon before, but never the fair exclusive.

Only time will tell, but obviously it was a mistake so ... who knows what they're going to do with the overstock if there is overstock.

I just sincerely hope Summer's able to sell her extras and that the UK Con has the right amount they need.

ohhh, Claire, I have a comment on that as well. I emailed a Hong Kong seller on ebay who had listed a pony as SDCC but was showing the Fair pony's picture. Except.. it wasn't a stock photo because it was loose. She replied to me saying she listed it as comic-con because the BOX they came in *said* comic-con. I'm thinking some were mis-packaged and then either dumped and rummaged out of the garbage or sold as errors in HK.

And yeah guys, if they were going to issue refunds they would have done it by now instead of sending the five or six of us that got orders in invoice confirmations saying they shipped.

well it will be intresting to see what happens, they may want to honor the sale since its gone through?

The Fair Staff has received all of our ponies. We have them in hand. The UK Con has not received their ponies yet.

I asked Hasbro about the production numbers and they produced a single run of 1000 of this pony. 500 went to the Fair, 250 to the UKPonyCon, 50 more were shipped to retailers by mistake in Singapore (some of these were purchased before the mistake was caught and they were pulled from the store shelves). There are 200 remaining ponies that were given to Hasbro staff. These are the ponies that were added onto Hasbro Toyshop by mistake.

So, to clarify there were 1000 produced of the 2011 pony and 1000 of the 2010 Fair pony. The 2009 pony was produced in much bigger quantities (the US Fair alone ordered 1000 and then others were shipped to the UKCon).

if the 2009 pony was produced in larger quantities, why can't I find one?! :p

Good, I am glad they released that information to you. Looks like a few mistakes were made with this pony. And 20% of production going to the staff, how generous...

Okee dokee. My order arrived, and inside were two 2011 Fair ponies. I am not sure how I feel about that. On the one hand, they honored the sales obligation, no false advertising and all that, but on the other, and I think more important, hand, they have allowed ponies to escape that shouldn't have. On the *other* hand, I did go and purchase them, and I'm not sure what to think of *that*, either LOL. I am not putting up my 2 extras for sale until I know the Fair has sold out of their stock (and they will only go for the Fair price--I'm not in this to make money, here, just to cover costs) and anything over my cost on the Hasbro-gotten one (the other was purchased at the fair) will be sent to SweetTune for the Fair fund.

I got mine today, too. That's the fastest that I've ever had something arrive from Hasbro.

OT: why does quick reply NOT work ever?

This all sounds really tricky. I work for the E-com at my work so I know mistakes with this happen. Someone , a boss could have told the staff to upload it since they did have some in stock. But were not suppose to but higher ups got word of mistake and abolished the plan. That is just a guess...

I have only gone to the one in 2005, I don't see why we would have to have a fair at the headquarters anyway.I have not been to any of the fairs after that since they were hard for me to attend. It is very hard to travel to a non major city, it is even more expensive. Is it harder to have one in L.A? That seemed like the easiest location.
