We're 6 months away from the next March Pony Madness, and frankly that is unacceptable.

So I says to myself, I says: What can be done to remedy this void? And this is all I could come up with.

I remembered the forgotten sets of the G1 line, the sets of Years 6 and 7, when Hasbro took the idea of gimmicky sets to a glorious and laughable level. What would happen if those ponies were, for some convoluted reason, asked to battle it out? Well let's ask them and find out.

(rofl, as I was typing this, the Simpsons episode with Milhouse's My Little Pony blanket came on, and I was filled with a wave of self-depricating shame. Yet that wave passed quickly and I will procede with this post).

I've collected (sadly, only figuratively) 12 sets-of-6 from Years 6 and 7. Every other day or so, we'll put one set up on the boards for voting. You simply need to choose which pony from that set you like the best. Then, the pony with the most votes will move on; each set sends its top vote-getter as a representative to a collective Pageant of sorts. A Pageant de Gimmick, as it were. From there we'll choose a top 5 or something, have pageanty things perhaps, and then find a winner, I don't know. It's all just an excuse to post some polls, so I'll work out the details as we go.

Yes-no?

The pedigree for inclusion in this game is that a set needed exactly 6 adult ponies, that it comes from the forgotten years 6 and 7, and that the set is, naturally, gimmicky. (Also, the Summer/Windy Wing ponies are excluded, because that just wouldn't have been a fair fight.)

Let's start with the Brush n' Grow Ponies! Choose your favorite BnG, the one you think is "best," perhaps the one you think will do the set proud, perhaps for some other reason. Your reasoning is your own.

(I'll do my best to provide reference photos for the voting).

And, of course, state your opinion in comments as if your life depended on it.

(For reference, we'll see polls for the following sets in the days to come, meaning each set will send one pony to our gimmicky equivelant of the United Nations:

Brush n' Grow Ponies
Happy Tails Ponies
Magic Message Ponies
Sundae Best Ponies
Sweetberry Ponies
Candy Cane Ponies
Dance 'n Prance Ponies
Merry-Go-Round Ponies
Perfume Puff Ponies
Sparkle Ponies
Sunshine Ponies
Sweetheart Sister)

The Brush 'n Grow ponies were gimmicks-done-right, in my opinion. Of the sets that will compete, the BnGs and the Sparkles are actually two of my favorite sets, and not even out of irony.

I voted for Pretty Vision, since she was practically my favorite pony as a kid. Something about her is definitively MLP to me.

I voted for Braided Beauty. That's a Brush 'n Grow if I ever saw one. She's all about the hair, even got a picture of a braid on her butt. She also seems to be a fairly common one that lots of people would recognize.

Bouquet. My Bouquet's hair falls over one of her eyes because her head faces down... she is so pretty. Especially a bright white one!

I have to go with Braided Beauty here. Tough choice, but I love her green color, and that dark green streak of hair. Just a lovely pony.

I decided to go with Curly Locks. She was the only BnG I had as a child and I will always cherish the memories...
Like listening to her neck bones break as I shortened her tail and then the distinctive fart noise she made when I made it grow back.

I voted Braided Beauty since she is the only one I have. :)

Curly Locks for me cos she was one of my childhood favourites :daisy:

I am staying loyal to Bouquet, or "Hatty" as we called her when I was younger.
She was in my childhood herd, but she never really had a main part in our playing. I'll vote for her anyway, because I think she's cool!

I have to just choose pretty vision. She has been my favourite BnG since I was 7

Aw, poor Ringlets. I love Ringlets; if you can find her in a non-discolored shape, she's a lovely violet-blue (and I love how her yellow eyes look on that shade). And I love how her symbol is so, so dated.

Again, this is one of my favorite sets, but one thing that always disappointed me slightly is that on the back of the box many of them are pictured with a chartreuse streak in their hair, when in actuality it's yellow. Other than Ringlets (who is pictured with yellow anyway), I think the ponies would look so much nicer with chartreuse. I've considered customizing my set many times. Customizing a Brush 'n Grow seems like a massive task though.

I like Braided Beauty a lot too, but I've always wished she was the dark green color shown on the backcard rather than the pale green she really is.

The french version of the backcard I posted cracks me up. They all have different names in french except for Bouquet. I wonder why, ha ;)

I went with Pretty Vision. I didn't have any of these growing up, but as I stared at the backcard, my eye kept going to Pretty Vision....odd, 'cause I don't usually care much for yellow ponies...

I also voted for Pretty Vision. ;) She is my favorite of the set for her colors and her pose. I've wanted her for quite some time now... partly because I think she would make a wonderful pair with Sunburst. <3

Aww, I'm in the minority, poor Ringlets isn't doing very well at all.

Her symbols are perfectly appropriate and her colors are just right to me. I also like her "assertive" pose.

I had to pick Twisty Tail because she's the one I had as a little kid. I still remember tearing that first piece of christmas wrapping paper to show the MLP logo!

I still have her but she's in severe need of restoration :( Her plastic is great, just needs new (full length, haha!) hair and tail, but I don't think I can get her neck bones to work again.
