to sell off my entire collection. I have been collecting since mlps first came out. Now being married with children, new home, many bills ect...
My ponies are still at my Mom and Dad's house all nicely displayed and collecting dust. I rarely see them anymore and I think I would rather have someone else enjoy them. I still love them but they really are no use to me anymore.
You can see what I have in this thread...

What would you suggest I do with selling it off? I really don't want to do ebay at all! Any ball park figure of what I could get for them? Any help or tips would be awesome on how to sell them all. There may be a few less common ponies from childhood memories that we would probably keep.

I would do it all through the boards then. It will be time consuming, but totally worth it instead of losing all those fees and stuff through Ebay. Do something like a Photobucket folder with pictures of groups or individuals.

I've done it twice now, and have only sold the stragglers through Ebay.

I hear you girl! I feel like that too... but my "childhood" collection was so huge that even when I sell some off it never seems to get any smaller. lol

Are you going to save some for your children? That's what I am keeping most of mine for. they are all in played with condition anyways. heheh

Good luck with your selling! I would use the board too, but to me it seems to take forever unless you have ponies in perfect mint condition. Personally I feel like it's been harder to sell common ponies, even played with ones at cheaper prices.

New collectors all want mint ponies or the rarer, hard to find ponies and the "nirvana" ponies. *shrugs* That's just what I have kinda noticed. I'm sure that it's not true for every collector..

Anyways this is getting long winded.. hehe

Good luck!!

Wow! O-O That is an awesome collection!

Well I would say DON'T DO IT! Lol. I just looked at your collection and it is one of the largest I have ever seen. You might feel that way now but it might come back to haunt you. Just make sure you have no emotional ties to the collection and trust your gut instinct. I would hate for you to regret selling it in a year. But for some it is fine.

There would be a lot of work there but a lot of money too. I hope it all works out.

BabyAppleJack, your collection is one that I have been in awe over, and very green with envy over!
I just have to say I'd definitely have to buy some of the awesome pieces of merch you have.

I think the time of pony buying is picking up, as the holidays are coming around. G1s are selling really well now too, as the Core 7 stuff has G3 collectors upset and bored. So November would be a great time to sell, with all the holiday swaps etc. coming up.

I'd agree with SkyRocketNeko. Sell on the boards. You can have it your way- we do have auctions here, as well as doing something easier, and less time consuming, like putting a post in the "Want to sell" with a link to your photobucket and just saying, "See something you like? Give me an offer." Then if you're happy with the offers that come, take 'em, if you're not, you can post here asking if it sounds fair.

Plus, that way with offers instead of BINs (which are also possible here in the classifieds section now, by the way) you can have time to think about each individual piece, and whether or not you really want it in your life.

If you need any help at all with the classifieds, the mods and I would be happy to help.

Wow, what a collection! I wish you the best with life and your sales! :)

I just had another thought. Another thing some collectors do when they are selling off their entire collections is just break them up into lots and sell that way. That would be probably the easiest, least time-consuming thing, however you might not maximize the amount of money you get for them.

Also, I was so caught up in thinking of how to sell best, and didn't think about the most important thing: We'll miss ya, girl! Will you ever still come back to the boards?

The only way that I could keep it would be for me to go on a different shift at work so we wouldn't need a sitter for our boys. I go in for 8am and my husband goes in for 6:20am. So if I were to change shifts I would be on the 4:30pm for 8 hours or more, wake up early with the kids, take my oldest to junior kindergarten for 8:45-11:15am.
I know I wouldn't get much sleep, but it would save $1000/month in childcare expenses.

Well, it's wise to think about what's best for your family first. I would just be sure that you have no emotional attachment to the majority before selling. You have a wonderful collection, and I'd definitely be interested in some of the ponies and merchandise (love that Firefly lamp!). Who made the Babies Munchy and Nightglider customs? They're adorable.

I've sold on the boards with moderate success. Everyone that I've done business with, though, has been wonderful. I definitely feel more comfortable selling in a community of people with whom I'm familiar rather than strangers on eBay - not to mention the fees!

I hope that if you do decide to sell, you'll still pop in from time to time to say hi. *hugs* Good luck!

Good luck with your sales! It sounds like you have a very nice family.

I've sold on the boards and it takes longer than eBay but I think I did better than I would have from ebay. You may also consider joining if you aren't a member already, at the Arena. I think that board has more people checking the sales forums- I sold a lot more over there. Hope that doesn't make anyone over here mad! The TP is AWESOME!

You could sell stuff in groups to move it along faster. Like, all four Rainbow curls for $x amount.

Everyone I've sold to on both boards have been really great!

Toy Museums?

You have such an increadible collection, I'd hate to break it up and sell pieces off individually.

Not that I and my fellow collectors wouldn't love to have some of your treasures - but I can't help but think that with a collection that amazing and vast you should contact some Toy Museums and see if one of them wants to expand their showcase to include My Little Pony.

I think you would get the least hassle with all the long term selling and be able to get a bulk sum of money that way.

If I were you, I'd start by looking up all the Toy Museums across the USA and find their Curators and e-mail them a coverletter stating that you have this wonderful collection that is up for sale and send them some pictures. Ask them to contact you if interested, wait two weeks and then call their office for a follow up. That way, if one of the museums does purchase your collection, it can be enjoyed by lots of people rather than just a few.

But it's just an idea.

wow! I should have paid admission to look at your collection!

Oh my goodness.. My first advice is to think carefully (I'm sure you have already) about selling, since once it's all gone, it's almost impossible to get back. You do have to do what you need to for your family, though.

Selling here on the board is much cheaper than Ebay (which will cut severely into your profits), since our services are free. If you need help price checking anything, we can always assist with that too.

So if you have more specific questions on selling this or that together, which sets, what individual.. I'm sure people here would be happy to give their advice and input.

That said, if you do decide to pursue selling, I would gladly offer and arm and a leg for some of those items you have. ;)

That is such a shame you are having to sell up :( I'm really sorry :(

Its been said a load of times before but please make sure you know you defintely want to do this - I sold up 20ish years ago and regretted it ever since.

As to ease of selling, group stuff up. Either groups and sell as you go or (and this I think is better) write down everything and ist everything together - say I purchased an item for you, then decided I wanted a second item you could combine the shipping, whereas if you listed the second item a few days later I wouldn't be so keen to buy - especially as shipping out of Canada is expensive.

Good luck in whatever you decide to do :)

Time came for me to sell most of my G3 stuff as well :/ I know how you feel.
Think carefully about what you want and don't want, and I wish you best of luck with life and sales :)

Thanks a good idea.. I never would have thought of that!

I agree, the toy museum idea is pretty original.

I hope you'll stick around and talk with us from time to time.

I've been drooling over your collection, and I don't really have anything new to say about how to sell them, just to be sure about selling.
