Keeping G3 MIB

Hey all, I know this is a really common question but I just did a search and couldn't find an answer.

Anyway I have recently moved house and have just finished setting up my collection (will put pics in brag section soon!). I had my Mum bring down my G3 collection as I have more space now. I've got quite a few G3 ponies still in their box, mostly out of laziness. I plan on removing some of them from their boxes, namely anything Core 7 and some of them I will keep in their boxes for display purposes - such as any sets or the retro re-releases. But I'm just wondering if there is any value in keeping G3 ponies MIB at all? I don't have any ponies that are rare or sought after (I don't think anyway).

Anyway any opinions would be greatly appreciated, I have limited space and of course want yet more ponies! Also what ponies ARE worth anything MIB?

Thanks!

I've been de-boxing the majority of my G3s. I don't envision myself ever having a pony room or budget large enough to allow me to be a MIB collector.

There are a few that I keep in their packages, though. The Art Ponies, Junko, Fair and Comic Con exclusives... Those ones are worth it. Maybe the international exclusives. Pony Points exclusives... Well, 'cept Love Wishes, maybe.

A few HTF G3s could be kept in their boxes to keep the value up, but honestly, they're easier to deal with loose. I'm selling my collection that I got a hold of a few years ago from another seller who kept a lot of hers MIB. Shipping is more expensive, they take up more space, harder to find boxes to ship in, blahblahblah. The value doesn't really go up much, if at all. IMHO a dollar or two more than retail almost 7 years later isn't worth it.

Of course, it is all up to you. :)

That's pretty much what I thought. Thanks for the advice, both of you. I think I will keep the ones MIB that I LIKE that way and debox the rest for more space. Thanks again!

Maybe (if you have the time and patience) to try and trade MIB G3's for mint loose ones. So many people debox their G3's because the thought is that they are so common. It makes me think that 10-15 years down the road there will be more MIB G1's than G3's. lol

i want to make sure my whole g3 collection is mib, but after setting up the pony room over the last week or so, it shows how much room is really needed for a mib g3 collection to be displayed... (will take some pics!) deffinatly dont debox htf tho, there worth keeping in the boxes for sure!

If you never plan on selling, the de-box away! However if you are thinking of keeping the ponies until the year 2030 and then selling them..... MIB!! The boxes are not all that hard wearing though, especially the plastic 'dome' shape ones, they split on the corners really easily.

Though sometimes I am tempted to get all my G3s out of their boxes... I had to buy some unboxed ones just so I had some to 'play' with :D

G3 MIB? Well, I recommend not to keep ponies in box, but keep the boxes. I keep in boxes only some ponies with accessories and rare ponies, too. That's my opinion.

I understand where you're coming from Pinkiemint, but how do you find space for your boxes and your ponies? What I do is I debox (usually, excepting some of the seasonal ponies, or special releases) and keep the backcard- it takes up way less space than the entire box.

But honestly, I don't think any of us will be able to predict what will happen with the G3 market several years from now- like when girls who grew up playing with them decide they want to collect... or something like that. The market could completely change. Right now the majority of G3s aren't selling that well, and boxed or not hasn't been affecting prices of the more rare G3s either... so I would say if you are 90% sure you will keep these for a long time, go ahead and debox, make your space, and enjoy your ponies! :)

I sold a good 80% of my collection, but I kept the ones I really wanted to keep MIB. The only time I have ever deboxed a pony is when I sold it and the buyer prefered that I debox them to save on shipping charges.

I am 100% a MIB collector.

I do have loose ponies that I have purchased, but if I had the option, I would always pick MIB over loose.

Well, the one who told me to do that was Kimberly, the owner of Dream Valley
