So, I've been a busy beaver here in Japan lately, especially when it comes to playing with the media. I've landed myself on a fashion program, "Tokyo Kawaii TV", which airs Wednesday nights on NHK.

What do ponies have to do with this? Well, I've been using pony hair to make colorful hair extension clips lately, so I will be showing those off on the quiz show we shot this past Saturday. My re-haired eyeshadow Pinkie Pie is on there, too!

It's not a HUGE feature, but at least they'll get a little exposure <3

So yes. December 10, NHK, Tokyo Kawaii TV...ponies. And me stealing the show!!

Random fun fact is that three of the six participants in the fashion quiz (including myself) are pony collectors. Small world!

EDIT (12/18): Here is the video, posted by Erika (another girl on the quiz). Ponies show up from around the 15-minute mark (my segment) :)

Enjoy~

Wow, that is really cool. Sounds like you're having a great time over there. :)

I wish I got that channel. I would love to see that. :)

Heh, thanks guys ^^; Yeah, Pinkie Pie is a ham.

There's a good chance that the episode will show up online, so when and if it does...I'll link you :D

CoolCoolCool!
You have to post a youtube link when it will be aired!^_^
Hugs,M!

Haha wow. I saw the ponies and her collection. You're so lucky to be up there ya know.

Though the show is kind of ridiculous. I know Japan is huge on that stuff but I hate it when people just throw on what they have and call it fashion.

Sometimes I kind of wonder whose life I'm living!!

The show is absolutely ridiculous, I agree. It scares me that I was one of the most normal ones on there.

Yeah, Japanese fashion isn't exactly something I fully get either...but what I have figured out is that those who are into it, are INTO it, and definitely live and breathe it. I swear I'm the odd one out - I just wear what I like and do whatever XD I'm only on there 'cause I'm kinda cute, foreign, and dress differently :p

that's awesome! i would love to know what you are talking about XD

Psh, silly me XD The explanation totally slipped my mind!

The premise of the program is fashionable foreigners in Japan. There is also the "Kawaii TV World Cup", a quiz competition that has six foreign girls asking each other questions about their personal fashion sense.

My personal question has to do with ponies. The question's more or less, "Using these ponies that I like, I make a fashion item. What is that item?" The answer is hair extension clips (exte).

As of late, I haven't been dying my hair pink due to the school club I am in, and the outfit I picked goes best with brightly colored hair, so I looked into making my own hair extension clips. Since I have a bunch of pony hair around from customizing and stuff, I decided that since pony hair is extremely versatile (i.e. it won't melt when you take a hairdryer to it), I'd make the exte clips out of that instead of going out and buying more hair. The pink exte clip is human hair plus the pink hair dye I already had, so okay, it wasn't ALL pony hair.

It's actually a good thing that I figured out how to do the extension clips, as my hair needed to be back to blonde by the next day. The images of me on stage wearing a black gakuran uniform is Ouendan, a uniquely Japanese (usually all-boys) cheer squad. I tell them that I wanted to be an Ouendan member because "I want to scream in Japanese, I want to be loud!" This is definitely part of the reason I joined, but of course there's more to it.

That part is in there because it is extremely uncommon for a) a girl b) a foreigner c) a foreign girl to join Ouendan. Also, it's a crazy contrast to the girly fashion they showcased on the program - a gakuran is most commonly a boy's middle school/high school uniform.

The winner of the quiz got to have their picture taken for the street snaps section of KERA magazine. So, I am in the January 2009 issue of KERA. It came out a few days ago - I look good...but the heck? I'm in a Japanese fashion magazine? Weirrrrrrrd.

If y'all have any other questions, please feel free to ask.

Oh my gosh! Ichigo, that is awesome! I cannot wait to get home so I can watch it. Congratulations, and I'm so stoked that you gave us the link so we could see!

*kidnaps you* Super cool! Nice to see someone in the forum who lives in Japan. You're super cute! I see they followed you while you were on hunt! Good deal!

You rock!!! Now find us some of those Takara My Little Ponies!

I'm so impressed! That was a great clip, it looks like so much fun and thanks for the explanation, I was wondering what was going on exactly. Congrats on winning the quiz and for getting to join Ouendan! I can't wait to see the magzine pics! :020:

Awesome video, though I really wasn't sure what was going on, lol. When they showed the collection, whose was that? It'd be cool if it was yours, but doesn't seem likely. Also wondering if you have a pic from the magazine, that'd be cool to see. :)

Actually, that IS my collection! :D I showed it off here at the TP a few months ago: http://www.mlptp.net/forums/show-tell/52951-my-collection-d-pic-heavy.html

Ah, the wonders of digital photography...even though my collection is halfway around the world from me, it still made it to TV in Japan!! Interestingly enough, the two ponies I showed off on the program are the only two I have in my dorm room presently ^_^; I couldn't decide which ones to bring, and ponies here are expensive. I'm not paying $8+ for a boring Core 7 pony, no way! So the collecting's on hold for a bit...ah well.
