The Great Pony Project

Still cleaning ponies and my hands are getting dry. No pictures of ponies, but I cleaned an entire box of accessories. (Also found a missing new born twin and peachy's tail inside). So gross. Good thing the plastic on the accessories lasts longer than the ponies.

I'm curious if you had to do any gluing back on of stickers like for the Sweet Shop?
If not then that's at least promising for the condition besides all the dirt.

There was a sticker that was stuck to a pony tail that I had no idea where it came from, but other than that, all the stickers were stuck securely on. Even after I dusted with a damp cloth. These accessories were also display only. They were never played with. Just sat around gathering much dust and cobwebs.

This is awesome. I just recently picked up some bait ponies and was trying to decide how to clean them. :) Thank you for sharing your story!!

Despite my lack of updates, I have not stopped cleaning. Oye, had to buy some stronger lotion, my hands are getting super dry. So here are the ponies I have been working on, sitting on the shelf, waiting to dry for a few more days before being put in baggies. There's a few that have been mentioned before, but most are newly pulled out of the nasty, dust box.

Newest ponies cleaned: Mommy and baby pairs of Gusty, Moondancer, Lickety-Split, Glory and Surprise. Along with TAF Love Melody, Milky Way and Up, Up and Away. Trickles, Pinwheel, Twilight, Purple Ember, Lemondrop, Sundance, Baby Fifi, Baby Cotton Candy, Bubbles, the missing newborn twin Noodles, and Glow.

Here's some of the pony damage I've come across:

ponydamage.jpg

Lemondrop has “saddle sore” from wearing the bright pink saddle and bridle. Gusty's legs are stained pink (though it's hard to see) from wearing those red booties from the raincoat pony wear. Pinwheel is just showing that stain around the cutie mark that seems to be quite normal for the rainbow ponies. I don't think there's really anything that can be done to prevent that. One can just touch up the paint to hide the stain, I guess.

Edit: My bad, Gusty was just wearing those nasty pink shoes, Glory was wearing the rain coat outfit. You can see in the group picture, that thick, red stripe on her leg from the booties.

Awesome, awesome work! Don't think I could go through and restore someone elses pony collection without trying to come up with ways their collection could merge with mine. LMAO

"I could just display them in my house for you"

LOL

They look awesome. I'd love to have you over to help me clean my ponies any day!!!

So, do you have an assembly line set-up when you clean, or how do you do that? Do you have a box with all your supplies? I'd love to see what's in your "pony cleaning kit."

They look so pretty and gorgeous, I bet they're so happy to be clean and given attention again!

Wow, this is quite an impressive project. I applaud your efforts. The only thing I've ever done that's close is I'm fostering a friend's pony to keep her safe from the resident dogs at my friend's house.

My mom works in a cafeteria dish room and she gets really bad chapped hands. She uses a lotion called Udderly Smooth and it works wonders.

(The lotion was originally a farmer's lotion to keep cow udders smooth and heal dryness from milking, but it works amazing on humans too)

Here is my pony salon, which is pretty much my bathroom sink.

You can see actually two pony projects sitting there. The early year ponies are my friend's ponies that I'm cleaning. They are just dusty and in need of a rinse and shampoo. The later year ponies are ponies another friend gave to me. They are absolutely disgusting, full of mold and filth. I feel I have to wash my hands just looking at them.

For the dusty ponies, I just rinse them with water and take a magic eraser to anything that needs a real good scrubbing. Then I use shampoo and conditioner on the hair. I was using my expensive product on them in the beginning because it was what I happened to have already at home. But when I saw how much I was using on the ponies, I went and bought some cheap Suave. Still has the same results.

I clean ponies in groups of 5-6 at a time. That's about all my back can handle before it's done leaning over the sink.

I've still been cleaning up a storm when I can. I'm getting excited. Getting down to the bottom of my third box and there's some GOOD stuff in there I'll post next time.

But here are my new girls all clean and sparkly.

Top shelf: Sunbeam, Blue Belle, Skyflier, Flutterbye, Powder, Bowtie, Applejack, Butterscotch, Scoops, and Sunlight.

Bottom shelf: Tickle, Moonstone, Starshine, Windy, Skydancer, Sea Shell, Sparkler, Majesty, Posey, and FF Snuzzle.

I keep seeing consistent damage when it comes to ponies with glitter on their symbols, especially the rainbow ponies. That glitter paint was just not kind to the plastic at all.

This project is positively fantastic! Thanks a world for sharing your progess with us! I just know those ponies are grateful for your hard work!

I promised some good stuff coming up. Get ready to drool ladies: SEA PONIES!

These girls are fully accessorized with ribbons, combs and shells. It's funny, before I saw these adults, I had no idea they made sea ponies that big. I thought there were just the baby ones. I freaked out when I saw them. LOL

This brings my pony total to 77

When cleaning the ponies, have you been removing the heads? Or leaving them on? I would be so afraid of water getting inside the pony's body.

AMAZING project, I doubt I would be able to do it, and not be able to keep some of them XP

I have not been taking off the heads to clean them. But I do not submerge them in water either. Water is just poured on top and every pony is given about 2 weeks to dry on the shelf before they go into plastic baggies and into storage. I make very sure they are super dry.
