I was for some time a "brony" though I personally hate the term, I don't like the over-saturation of males through FiM

I realise I'm a male, but I at least tried to see if their was more to ponies than the show. I fear that with "Bronies" they will just drool over the show, and give the deeper, vibrant fandom beneath not a single glance.

Bronies I tend to see as a collection complex, peple united under one banner. The males find solice in the fact other males watch the show and don't feel like they're masculinity is in question due to the presence.

At least bronies are more approachable than the cult following of shows such as Harry Potter and Twilight.

As I am relatively new to the MLP world, I have only heard the word used in the 'male pony lover' context. Ai had no clue that it had many more meanings!

an old tp member might remember this.... if im remembering right the male pony fans did call themselves somethng before fim? or am i making this up?

Miss, I seem to remember them calling themselves something, but I don't know if it was Brony or not. When I first heard the term Brony (when FiM first came out and we realized it had a huge male fan following) I was floored with how brilliant and witty that term was. Hehe. So I definitely hadn't heard it before.

However, I could be wrong.

To me, Brony makes me think of a male FiM fan. "Bro" + "Pony" but I realize that it doesn't have to be just male. I think it's a cute term and some females are adopting it for themselves too, which is cool.

RE: Bro + Pony

:pegasus:
Well, I am pretty new here and just assumed that it was Brother and Pony combo - so it meant male pony lovers.

Im a male MLP fan who is a bit reluctant to call myself a brony, because when i hear the term i cant help but think about all those "FiM-only"-fans who dislikes everything MLP related that came before it.

i think bronies are getting more interested in the older generations of the show,
right now on equestria daily they are voting on which older generation pony they would like to see included in season 4 , out of these choices
Firefly
Surprise
Posey
Gusty
Minty

firefly is at the top with almost 3000 votes.
i think they are getting over there original "kill it with fire!" reaction and starting to see that the older generations are really pretty good.
God help us all if they start collecting g1 because we all know that they have deep pockets and there are millions of bronies and only a limited number of g1 ponies. just look at the plushes that sell for thousands and the autographs that bring in tons of money.
