Hah! I started a thread then came back. I am more of a forgetful foghead every day. At least I know if I start walking into walls and hurting myself, Hank could lock me up in the turtle enclosure for safe keeping!
I take a plush with me to all my appointments that my Wesley doesn't go to. Pretty much all of them, now. I'm that one that everyone avoids in the waiting room since I'm talking to my plush and petting it.
My whole life I've carried a particular favourite toys around, even into adulthood. At first it was a baby doll my cousin gave me as a baby. Her name is Sarah Jane Crabtree. Then came my Mego Spock doll. He was my stalwart companion through 3rd grade up through high school. And there was Minty of course, my fave pony my brother Ken gave me. She was stolen when my tub of ponies was swiped in a move. I never had the heart to replace her, but Ology sent me one and she is now my beloved fave pony. Logan was another, a Secret Wars figure of Wolverine. I'd take him to work and we'd dunk him in all the food as 'death traps', that was during college. Then it was the Decepticon Soundwave, but I got scared he'd be broken so he ended up on a shelf. Lastly was the 12" Beast action figure for the early 90s. I always called him by his nickname "Hank" so it was funny to me my kid picked the moniker Action Hank (although Action hank has nothing to do with my Hank, he's a Dexter's Laboratory character). I had carried Hank forever, but in 1995 when my husband was killed, I just couldn't let Hank go ever. He went literally everywhere, another the nation with me. Any festival, con, you name it, Hank went. But in the early 2000s I noticed he was getting very, very battered. So he retired with Spock to the bed. They sleep with me and Poopsie every night.
Woe be to whoever rolls over on Hank though. He has very sharp toes.
I'm 100% not into army ponies, but I have such an affection for Butterscotch, that I have a hard time selling or giving up doubles.
I keep doubles of ponies that have huge colour variations. I have a few Blossoms with very different shades of purple.
I can't walk past my Perfume Puffs without smelling them.
I can't stand seeing flutters without wings. I make quickie pop bottle wings for the ones who are waiting for original wings.
I often keep ponies (or other toys in my purse) Tonight I was at a small get together and found a Gumby in my purse.
I have always believed that my toys come alive at night. I treat all toys as if they are listening to me and I apologize if I knock them over or mess up their hair or something.
I see most inanimate and living objects as potential living vessels. This goes hand in hand with my spiritual beliefs as an indigenous person in the idea of 'manitou', widespread among the Algonquian tribes, an idea migrated and adapted by many tribal folk. It also follows my philosophy of animism. I've bored the board with that whole thing before though. Heh. I'll refrain this time!
This isn’t exclusively a pony related thing for me, I do it with all toys. But when I’m shopping at a thrift store or goodwill and I find 2 ponys in the shelf together I have to get both, even if I already have one of them. Lol I just don’t like the idea that they might have spent their whole lives together as some kids toy only for me to separate them
I do it too. I'm a sucker. I'll even buy dirty, beat up toys because I know they'll end up in the trash. I'll clean'em up and give them away or even keep them. You don't wanna know how many stuffed toys my lovely wife and I have gathered up out of sheer pity.
Kids do wacky things out of sheer curiosity! It ins't malice, it's inquisitiveness!
Apparently when I was five I begged for a particular baby doll that was squishy like a real baby. When I finally got the coveted toy, I bit off some of her toes to see what she was made of. My mom spanked the dickens out of me and never let me have the doll back. I bet it was delicious...
It’s interesting reading how everyone else documents their collection. I have been documenting mine by making them into little booklets with a photo of them and their information. There’s three volumes so far (can only have about 20 pages, 10 pieces of paper, from the size) and I’m only going up to my collection as of March. I include any that’s gone missing from my collection as “honourable mentions” but because I’m only going up until March this year so far so my newest Cutie Mark Crew’s will have to be in a new one once these are done
Man, I just have a buncha boring excel files. Yours sounds way cuter!
I had to take extensive individual photos of each pony and pictures of the collection as a whole for insurance purposes.
Those pics could save you from taking a loss on your insurance one day too! When someone swiped about a third of my comic collection out of the shed, I was able to prove I did indeed have a large group of expensive books because I had lovingly photographed and documented them. If I hadn't, I think the insurance company would've fought me. Instead, they paid me quite well for them. And I used it to put a new roof on the house instead of replacing them. Adult stuff. BLEAH.
