G5 G5 Chatter

all I am going to say for the toys part is I hope they add more unicorns! Just realized it is only izzy so far... so here is hoping the show inspires more original/background characters be made and not just a re-hash of the "main" set all the time
 
I showed the film to my partner who has been fairly "anti-pony", he found the movie "surprisingly good" with it's animation quality and message. I hope they keep up the animation style, it flatters the new pony style very much.
 
Bleh, I remember the G3 MLP game. It was boring as heck.

YES! I was observing this too! Would add that the toys have more emphasis on interesting accessories like the G2s did...Pipp's Royal Palace bedroom streamer setup is wild and I love it.

Fun fact: I was talking ponies with my manager tonight (I spammed my FB with updates as I worked on restoring some recently-acquired G1s and she got curious), and while explaining the visual differences between the generations, I described G5 as "kinda like a cross between G2 and G4". So you're definitely not alone there! I'm honestly happy for it.
 
We now know that G5 will continue as a Netflix exclusive series. Today Hasbro’s official MLP Instagram released the look for the webisodes slated to release on YouTube on April 5th.

This sounds like something where they’d be sharing stories from fans maybe judging from the “Tell Your Tale” and “Make Your Mark” title? Perhaps when kids do something seen as extraordinary or maybe how some people have helped each other through things. True tales of friendship?

I’m surprised the first thing we’ve seen about the series is not the detailed CGI ponies and instead haven’t moved fully away from 2D animation. I’m not a total fan of this style and reminds me of the Pony Life style but with more of a body on them. Hitch’s face looks strange the most. I don’t hate it but I’m glad we are seeing something
 
I was just getting used to New Generation, and they have to go and pull this. Ugly Pony Life 2 electric boogaloo. You suck Hasbro, as always. When will we see pretty ponies again? In fact, when will we see a conscious effort again? -_-


Also, has anyone seen Rocking Ranger Hitch Trailblazer in stores anywhere?
 
I'm pretty sure the webisodes and the "real" series will be in different styles. The real series is being produced by Atomic Cartoons and from what I've heard, it will be CGI.

It probably will not be the incredibly high-quality CGI of "A New Generation" movie . . . That movie was intended for theaters originally. The amount of $$$ it must have cost to render that lush, beautiful hair . . . Plus, y'know, it's a totally different studio so they won't be using the same animation rigs etc.
 
I was looking at the new Mini World Magic playsets on MLP Merch and it seems we have another G1 pony (kind of) returning? Meet Posey Bloom

which game we talkin? i only played the pc game best friends ball & many of the flash games lol i enjoyed them tons. never played the DS game

also.. that 2D style.. ehh, it's cute but once i saw the mouths moving it felt too much like the art styles i see on so many cartoons lately lol for once i strongly prefer CGI :rolleyespony:

They’re changing the VAs from those who were a part of the film? Is there a reason why?

I am surprised at how much information is coming about G5, it’s like a wave after it’s been quiet for a while. Apparently there is even a new comic series coming!

I might be late to the comic news though…
 
Because most of the actors in the film were "regular" (live action) actors, not voice actors. MLP: A New Generation was intended to be an in-theater movie (it was sent to Netflix instead due to Covid), so they wanted recognizable names to . . . I don't know, draw in adults? Tbh I find it really unfair and dumb that theatrical animated features use live-actors instead of voice actors. Like, voice actors are the experts at emoting with their voices . . . It's kind of like saying "James Marden is going to be the Key Grip in our new movie!! :D" Wh-what? Don't you want someone who already knows how to do that?? lol

I did think Vanessa Hudgens etc did a great job in the film so I'm not knocking their performances, I just wish studios didn't do this!

Anyway, out of the G5 movie cast I think the only professional voice actor was Izzy's actress, Kimiko Glenn. But I thiiiiink she's based out of LA? And the production for the new G5 series appears to be in Vancouver, Canada. Vancouver is a hotspot for voice talent so I'm sure they'll find someone good, though.

Not like the Netflix Transformers series (War for Cybertron) where they used RANDOS FROM THE INTERNET, lol.
 
Not a big fan of the art style of the new 2D show. I do hope that it looks better when it's animated but the first look...yeah not my thing.
But those little playsets on the other hand look so cute! Wish they had more details but still I do like them a lot. I was kind of hoping for MLP Polly Pocket inspired playsets. I want to get at least one of the bigger ones and I am getting for sure that little Hitch gem playset (there's still not too many new g5 available for sale here in Poland but hopefully it changes soon).
 
Honestly, I think the webisode style is cute. I knew the CGI wasn't going to be a permanent fixture. I think it's just because everything we've seen from G5 has been so stylistically different; once we get used to it and get more exposure to it I have faith it'll look more natural. I can't wait! At the very least, I'm excited to see more with the characters.
