Before that happened with Sunny, I was going to post this:

I spent a long time standing there trying to decide if to get Sunny or Sunny and Izzy since I was out for Christmas shopping and not me and also “do I need new ponies on this side of Christmas?”
As I was leaving finally deciding on getting them both, I swapped Sunny with a better one at the back and then… I saw Pipp.

Then I was having some trouble deciding for what felt like forever again. I couldn’t take them all so I decided on just Sunny

That was my first time seeing G5s in person and I love the size and look of them so much better than the first pictures we got of them. Izzy’s eyes seem too close though
 
Anyone else noticed that the Opaline listing on Amazon says ships within 1 to 2 months >n> thats rediculous... even the fastest shipping option would still take a month

My personal opinion, they're not fun as the previous lines. Hard plastic bodies of the larger ones is what really turned me away. there's no personality in them, all cookie cutter.

I did consider buying to resell, but eh, I don't think they'll sell.
 
Is it me or are there less poses as the gens have gone on?

I don’t see myself getting as many G5s as the other gens. My rule to collecting is only get if I actually like the pony just like when I was little. G5 isn’t a favourite gen in terms of the toys. Since G4, I don’t see there being a huge range of different characters being produced as brushables anymore like with G1 - 3.

It’s a real shame that it seems they’re going to clearance fast in stores but maybe I’m just seeing it as seemingly fast, I could be wrong

It's definitely not just you. G3 was truly the last hurrah for unique poses.

It's interesting to note that they're revamping the G2 style in a way and it's still not doing that great.
 
Maybe they are hitting that "style reboot" phase that soon after realising toys are a bit creepy?

Faces are cute, but coherency!..

You’re right about the poses, I’ve only seen like 3 different poses for the g4 brushables (I’m not sure about g5 ones cause stores around me haven’t had that many of them) which is too bad cause it’s nice to be able to display them without everyone looking the same direction and stuff

Most new toys end up thrifted super fast :/ Some parents throw toys out so fast. Ive found dolls and ponies, etc thrifted or tossed like a month after release over the years.

Yeah, that’s the more realistic reason I think. I see the toys firsthand going on clearance just because they’ve been released in bursts so far for the most part, so by the time something new rolls around, the previous releases aren’t all shiny and new anymore. It’s hard keeping kids’ attention if you’re not swapping products out on the shelf every so often!

I guess it’s an unpopular opinion, but I adore the G5s so far. I do wish there were more poses, and the smaller ones are prone to production issues, but the 6in toys are wonderful — silky hair, sturdy plastic, just extremely well-made. At this point I’m honestly kinda ashamed that I like them though, I keep getting the feeling that it’s Wrong and I Shouldn’t.

It’s fine to like the G5 ponies, everybody has different favourite gens. You like what you like and that’s fine. There’s no right or wrong here :Flutter4: From the pictures of your collections, I like how your G5s are all together. They look nicer in a collection rather than alone I think

I do quite like the smaller brushables and the big fashion size(?) sets are nice too. Sure, there’s parts I don’t like with G5 but when I saw my little Sunny in person I had to get her, even if her hair did fall out I still kind of like her over there next to my G4’s. I kind of hope I’m able to go back and get Pipp soon and also hope they push little Izzy’s eyes a bit further apart so I can add her to my collection

You shouldnt feel ashamed!! I really love g5 too, and im gonna continue to buy it. We arent the only ones either. Lots of people like them! Just bc some may not like g5s doesnt mean its wrong. I feel this happens with every new gen. Theres some people who love them, some who are neutral, hate them, etc. Its been that way since G2 came out and continues to be that way. Its like that with any toy that has multiple gens.
Its the nature of human beings to have different opinions, nothing wrong with that. Everyones opions arent supposed be the same or else we wouldnt be unique beings! ;)

I know theres dark sides to the fandom but here at the MLPTP I dont think anyone would judge anyone for what gens they like. <3 Try not to worry! Im glad the TP is a safe place. Dont let the bad side of the fandom gatekeep collecting or ruin your enjoyment of collecting. Gatekeepers arent worth the time or aggravation they cause.

Thank you for the reassurance! I guess it’s just a knee-jerk reaction. I tend to 1.) get involved in turbulent fandoms and 2.) find great enjoyment in things that most others dislike or find tacky, and so I tend to jump to the assumption of “Great, gotta pretend I hate this too or I’m gonna get threatening messages again.” Some fandoms are wild, I tell ya. :rofl: I get disheartened too easily. I’m grateful for places like this, where at the end of the day everyone is loved and supported!
