I have a pony who seems to be FULL of black mold. I'm working on removing her head so I can clean it out. Can anyone give me suggestions on how to clean her? It's a TAF Sugarberry. I believe I need to boil her, but what kind of cleaner should I boil her with? Any suggestions would be most appreciated. Thank you.

Yuck. Well I don't think you would have to boil her. When I boil ponies I always use oxi-clean but I do that more for the pin dot mold.

I use Comet soft scrub (scratch free version) and a toothbrush and scrub away. Children's toothbrushes work great for getting into the hooves btw. You can also do diluted bleach. Just anything with bleach to get it gone.

My mom actually found a Gusty at a yard sale that I'm working on fixing up that had the same problem. She's actually the most disgusting pony I've ever come across. She was rattling and I thought her tail washer was off. But no it was because she was coated in mold.

Little time in the bathroom with the Comet and she's mold free now. (Too bad that wasn't the end of fixing her though.)

Good luck.

Well, me recomended acetone for nails. It's 100% guarantee!
And just give pony a bath! It'll be super!

Do you have a pic? If not, is it surface mold? Pin dot?

Yeah, I have to say that I use Oxyclean on everything. Maybe just take the washer out if there is one and put some inside with some water and let it work the magic. Good luck!:ducky:

know what? you should take the tail out and replace the washer with plastic, to prevent future rusting and mold, along with what else we've already discussed...

hope this pony come's out shiny and new!

just wanted to say "ewwww...... nasty!"

hope you can clean her up good as new.

I've bought a couple of ponies from e-bay that had black mold on the inside, including one that was so bad it was growing out of the holes where the mane was rooted through. Yuck! I pulled the heads off and bathed them in boiling water and Oxyclean. Most of the mold fell out, and I could see it in the "bath water" when it cooled down. Then I took a toothbrush and scrubbed the insides of them out to get the remaining chunks (again, yuck) out and let them dry for a few days before putting them back together. One of them ended up with her mane and tail feeling a tad bit dry at the ends, don't know if this was from the Oxyclean or not, but you might want to extra condition her hair just in case.

I've had absolutely no luck with the oxy-boil and dirty ponies. Maybe my ponies have been way worse, though. I've had the best luck soaking them in hot tap water with a denture cleaning tablet inside them. It breaks all the stuff lose inside.

I've never had any luck with oxyclean. It seems overpriced and it doesn't do anything when I use it. *shrugs*

Denture tablets, that's a new one. Cool, something else to try.

And yeah sometimes it takes a lot of baths with Oxi clean to de-smooze a pony. I usually soak them for a while anymore, than just a quick boil.
I don't really know if it quite sanitizes them all the way through either. I had a Moondancer that was really bad, that eventually got the smooze back anyway in the same spot. You'd think boiling water would do the trick.

This is why I love this board. I was going to ask this very same question as I noticed one of mine was covered in mold inside. (It was like a horror movie to me! I had no idea this could even happen! D: ) I already have great ideas to go on from this thread. I'm going to get her cleaned up in no time!

I tried the denture tablets last night to help clear the mold from my pony. I let the body soak for a bit longer than the box suggested. As near as I could tell, it didn't do anything extra to help with the removal. I still had to scrub just as hard to try and get it all out.But it was probably a bit odd to see at the store when I walked up to teh check out with denture tablets and a child's toothbrush and not looking age appropriate for either.Right now, I'm just trying to find something that will really help me get down into the corners of the legs. They're hard to reach. Maybe I'll look into some pipe cleaners or something. Wish me luck!
