Let's hear some hot takes!

I mean when your stuck with two angry Princess Liea hair buns and then two dangling croissants for layers you would probably be bitter too!

omg i didnt even realise she had little hairbun things xD - thats how much i did not like her hair, that i completely blocked it out!

Maybe something along these lines?

Tried to keep a bun and curls (I failed at the curls lol) but it seems better to me than what she currently has xD

The hair behind her face is a typical long bang/forelock if you will

Then the show started cluing in she was outright evil and I kept being in denial until there was no ignoring it anymore
I legit do not think we have unironic Shirley Temple-based characters anymore. Your sibling guessed because it became one more evil archetype.

This is like what happened to clowns. They are either evil or creepy or weird or "nobody finds them funny, right" (even Prattchett did this one), or, in one egregious case, this

(hope it is ok to post, that is a children's show)

That's just standard anime villainess trope hair. Complete with other characters design choices.

Red hair, curls, and the bigger drill curls are frequently used in anime, too, so they're borrowing.
I thought that too, the anime villainess trope hair. All she needs to complete it is to do a kind of “ohohoho” laugh

Yeah, I too was like "Oh she's evil. Here we go again." as soon as I saw her character design and heard her voice.

If there's one thing modern kids love, it's a tired trope based on a child actor of the 1930s who was in movies they've never seen. Yippee!

I don't know if this is a hot take or not, but I hate Discord, especially "reformed" Discord. He's an awful friend right up until the final season where he releases a bunch of villain and encourages them to attack his "friends." Sincerely wish they had turned him to stone again.

I also simply don't find his LOLWTFBBQ humor funny.

To be fair, clowns are a pretty weird concept lol. I don’t find them scary but they do give off mildly creepy vibes even when they’re regular ones who aren’t trying to scare anyone

Was not expecting to see lolwtfbbq referenced here!!

Also, y'all I looked up Cozy Glow because I haven't watched all of g4 yet and wasn't familiar.... I think her design is so cute!!! Whyyyy did they go and make her evil and waste such a cute design? Lame!!

I've been loving all the vintage MLP 'n Friends storyboards posted by YanchaMisc on Tumblr, but the storyboards lead me to my next hot take: I wish they had axed most of the songs in MLP 'n Friends.

Every segment of MLP 'n Friends had a song. It seems like they would storyboard the entire script and then go in after the fact and cut out a couple minutes per episode to make room for said song. So we missed out on all these cute scenes. And, being shoehorned in as they were, a lot of the songs didn't move the plot forward, which imo is VERY IMPORTANT when you only have 11 minutes of pony content per half hour episode. (The other 11 minutes would be Moondreamers, Glo Friends, or Potato Head Kids, and the rest went to commercials.) Like maybe The End of Flutter Valley didn't need the plot to grind to a halt so a Furbob could sing about his self-doubt.

@LadyMoondancer It is just like how superhero cartoon need a fight scene. Sometimes it seemed like they were trying to meet a certain quota of singing/fighting for each episode, even if it came out of nowhere.

On the main topic, my hot take is; My Little Pony has never been a franchise about magical horses since G2 ended. People begging Hasbro to make them more horse-like, or introducing human character that befriend the ponies, will never get what they want.
G1 is about Megan (a farm girl), Molly and Danny discovering the magical land inhibited by all sort of magical creatures, not just ponies.
G2 Friendship Garden game is about the player having a magical pet horse.
It pained me to see G3 design note basically removing all horse-like qualities from ponies and make them act like little girls instead.

Now, this is might not be a hot take, because I saw people on YouTube saying the same thing a lot; but, I think G5 is pretentious.
It is what most people who think "I want my childhood media to be darker and more serious, but remains a children media for the next generation of kids to enjoy." and then, they fumble the execution because they think all they need to do is throwing dark subjects into colourful cartoon.

The heart of G5 is based on some allegory of Racism. The main conflict is about healing the land and restoring it back to the way it used to be before 3 pony races separated. That is a very dangerous way to start a kid series. You can't just use these serious real life topic as shock value, or uses it as a bargain chip for people to take your show seriously. Shows like Static Shock or teen Titans 2003 does address serious things like racism, but the heart of the show is that they are both action-comedy-coming of age superhero shows. That is why they got respect for not being afraid to get serious, and they can really make children re-examine their own prejudice.

G5's overall tone would be much better if it is a slice of life/magical adventure show that dip its toe (hoof?) into tension for 3 pony races not truly trusting each others. How would you teach kids about racism, if your version of racism is outlandishly fantasy? It's not like 1/3 of world population will actually get the ability to fly when everyone stop being mean to each other.

My hot take is hooves of G2 and G5 are an ugly eyesore that make them look like fakies. G2 has beauty quern that is Silver Swirl, so it pains me she has nonMLP legs.
MLP have marshmallow legs, thankyouverymuch.

I feel like living in forced harmony or you don't get to use magic or fly is just plain dumb.

I don't rlly care for mimic tbh there are much better looking g1 ponies that don't cost 500$
The going rate on ebay auctions and buy it nows lately has been around $120 to 166.

I hope that's a good sign that some prices are going down on a few of them.

One of the highest I've seen lately, for an auction, was the mail order magenta Mommy and Baby with crib for $776? $778?

I don't think any of them should be worth that much.

Interesting I don't really check on the prices of more expensive ponies that much because I can't afford them rn but that's a great sign that these ridiculous prices will start to go down a bit

covid time is what brought ponies up so high this time - it was insane

I add them to my watch list to see what happens. Sometimes I like to watch how people battle it out in the last few minutes.

For example, there's a still low really nice looking Angel right now. I have her already, but I want to see what happens.

And I double checked my watchlist ended listings and found a single Munchy that snuck through for $99! That's why I edited above.

Income tax returns can drive up prices for US based auctions. And there seems to be a slump right before Christmas when people are spending on others gifts (versus our collections).
