Unpopular Pony Opinions

you tell me not to mention how precious they look with those eyelashes
My favorite horse was a gelding and his mane was 2ft long! His tail would drag on the ground while in the corral, because he held it up when doing his foxtrot. They were naturally wavy, too! Boy horses can be pretty, too! :3:ROLO:

Growing up, I thought most ponies were boys. Some I was sure were girls like most flower themed ones and the obvious one like the Bride pony but to this day, I see most G1 ponies as boys. I think this happened because I paid no attention to official material but be it as it may, I never had any doubts as to which ponies were girls even though looking back, I have no idea how I reached my conclusions. Baby Diamond was a girl; Baby Nightsong was a boy, why? No idea. It wasn't the jewelry theme either as Baby Ruby was a boy in my mind. It wasn't the coloring as traditionally feminine colors also slanted male, Baby Moondancer was a boy to me and to this day I cannot think of them in any other way.

To this day, I find it very difficult to mention to them as "she" even when I know they are girls canonically. So I often default to "they".

Oh absolutely, I am all for people deciding that certain ponies are boys based on nothing except that they just feel that way. For instance, as a kid I always saw my Baby Woolly, the sheep, as a boy. When I was looking at all the ponies on Dream Valley and looked at Oakly the moose, I always saw her as a girl.

Seriously, and why is it mostly the boys that get the molded hair anyway? Do they not remember the long flowing big brother hair?

You know it's just because they're boys, too. Zipp has super short hair too, and does she get molded hair? Nope! She gets actual hair because she's GIRL

Right? If it was the same on Zipp it would be slightly more reasonable but nope! Oh well, we’ll just have to make our own custom boys with long hair until Hasbro gets the message lol

I’m willing to bet that some part of so much moulded hair is that even younger kids can have them, and cost. Hasbro is trying to make money.

I suppose it's because Zipp's hair is prettier and more vibrant, whereas Hitch's hair is just green. I would prefer if he had brushable hair too, but I also do like the flocked hair he had in that "Rockin' Ranger" toy.

It's green and blue. And that's more unusual and rare. Pink and blue hair is a dime a dozen. Ergo, Trailblazer deserves a long mane.

Flocked does sound better than just plain plastic I guess, I haven’t seen that one

I guess it’s Hasbro’s way of trying to make it “soft but moulded at once”?

I actually do like the G5 moulded hair ponies. I can't reroot manes, too chicken to try. Unfortunately, not all pony hair can be dyed. Blind bags are too little. So they are perfect for someone like me to customize. I don't like the joints though. Or the ball joint, and I wish it was more like a proper my little pony head/neck. They seem to have better faces, though I haven't seen the smaller mainline toys in person. So maybe they're about the same?

I always forget Wind Whistler’s symbol is supposed to be whistles. I always missaw it as chubby birds flying, like when one may draw simplistic seagulls in doodles in a v shape but with round bodies. It feels like I’m realising for the first time but I’m sure I’ve seen it properly before…

I get that whistles match her name properly but for me, the birds are how I remember her :windwhistler:

I'm probably the only one that feels this way, but I don't like alicorns. I just don't get them or understand how all that is possible.
I'm not in exactly the same boat, but I'm close. An adjacent boat, if you will, lol. I like Princess Celestia and Princess Luna as alicorns because they have god-like powers, they live a thousand years, basically I regard them as pony deities given flesh. So with them I'm like "Alicorns--YEAH!"

Other than that, I don't like the idea of alicorns. For years and years, pre-G4, collectors would be like "omg my DREAM is for Hasbro to make alicorn MLPs!!!" and I was always like "mmm, can't relate."

My other unpopular opinion is I don't like Wind Whistler and she doesn't seem particularly smart to me. She seems like an average pony who uses long words. (Forgive me if I've brought up Wind Whistler in this thread already, I have trouble remember what I have / haven't talked about, lol.)

I actually really like G4s ( not G4.5s though ), I have the same gripes about it like other people, like how there was too much of mane6 and I would've loved to see more non-show, original ponies. And while the sentiment, that they're less detailed and that the previous gens had a better sculpts is true, I still love them regardless,. Honestly, I just find them cute, they're fun to hold and looking at them makes me happy and there's honestly not much more to it than that.

But as a mini rant, when I was still part of the target demographic in the early 2010s, the thing that put me off of non-show ponies as a kid back then, was that they just used recolors of the mane6 for the packaging most of the time, which made them feel somewhat tacky to little me. I can understand WHY it was done but a better cost effective solution would've been to handle the ponies on the package, the same way they handled background ponies on the show, to have the same body with several mane and eyes variations ( that don't overlap with mane6's ).

Now, non-show G4s is what I'm mainly interested in, since, as an adult, I separate art on the package from the pony and enjoy the toy for what it is, but I still would, even now, prefer if they would've done it in the way mentioned above.
