This is purely on design:

My favorite would’ve been Zipp if her wings matched her hair color. But instead of pink and blue her wings are like, purple? The wings and hair match in 2D art tho so I voted for her. If the 2D color palette didn’t exist she’d probably be a lot lower.
After her, probably Hitch. Love the colors and how he has the white patches.
After him either Izzy or Sunny. They’re tied. Two very different aesthetics but I’ve been thinking of them as 1 unit, both because the sun vs moon thing and how they were designed by the same person, Imalou.
Lastly, Pipp. Idk I’m just not crazy about her. I really like how she’s smaller and chubbier tho. I wonder if the toys will reflect it.

As for personalities, in the animated teasers it looks like Hitch might be cocky and Izzy might be bubbly so if those assumptions are right those two are gearing up to be my favorite. But who knows!
 
I have picked the blue guard, but as we all know the best new person is gonna be Bubba the swamp pony that wrestles alligators and lives in the partly sunken paddle steamer, I hope when they make a toy of him he comes with is fan boat and blunderbuss.

Truly a character of rugged refinement.
 
So this is beginning to be a theme, but it has to be Hitch or a guard, I seriously need more boy ponies in my life. I blame it on not having one until very recent (shining armour plus I now have a boy g1 waiting for me at home). Felt the same way about barbie as a little girl, only wanted Ken and a lady of colour, just not another blonde! Poor blonde barbie. Lol

I was never interested in Ken dolls as a kid cause all the ones I saw had hard plastic hair :blink:
But I had an Aladdin who hung out with my barbies lol

G5 - New info and screen shot of MLP Movie +Toys

I'm going with Izzy, but I'm not crazy about the faces this time around. They remind me of a cross between Paw Patrol and recent Disney princesses (Elsa, Anna, Moana, Rapunzel). I do like the G2-like bodies. I feel like G2 didn't really get a fair shot because so many of us experienced shock/anger at the style change when it was released. I used to hate it, but it's grown on me. I think that's happening now too, but I haven't really been following it closely.

I loved G3 immediately and G4 almost the same. Not a huge fan of G3.5 or Pony Life and haven't felt the need at all to collect all of the latter. Willing to give G5 a shot, but I wish Hasbro's design team had tried to come up with more pony-like faces rather than riding the coattails of others. If I end up hating it, I'll just continue to focus on the other gens.
 
LAW thanks for updating the thread with the images! That's very helpful. Based on looks alone I am digging Zipp. I am anxious to get to know them and see if I change my mind.

I voted for Hitch because I want a male 'lead' character. Zipp is a clise second because of how cool she looks. I can't wait to see everyones character.

I understand your feelings. I wish these people had looked at a pony first before giving them Elsa heads. In fact, I wish the Retro Mane Six moulds were being used for this gen. But for the moment, they're a breath of fresh air, and that's a huge relief for G5. I can only cross my fingers for some horsey tweaks to the toys' heads, going back to a collect-em-all mentality like with the first 3 gens, and that the toxic creeps move on.

I had no idea that G2 had ever come around until the internet. I had even believed for a time, that G3 was the first revival of MLP since the 80s. When I finally did discover them, I was shocked and confused at their appearance, and chose to ignore them. But I've got one now, and she's pretty cute.

G3 I loved immediately. Why can't we go back to G1/G3 in design? They're beautiful and diverse and wonderful. G3.5 is butt ugly. I've never liked them.

Despite owning G4s, its one of my very least favorites for its ugly, bulbous heads, poor quality, extreme character repetition and the baggage of a very pushy, toxic group that makes me feel gross sometimes for owning them. Pony Life is hideous, and the worst the brand has ever been. Thank goodness it won't last long. Its a shame, because it has some nice and unique colors and symbols. I would like to have cross-gen customs of Potion Nova, the green unipeg, and the mouse pony.

I think 3.5 is actually cute, like chibi g3. I had seen some G2 when I was younger but had no idea they were mlp lol they looked so different. It wasn’t until I started going to thrift stores and wanted to id a G1 pony that I saw g2 wasn’t just a random pony toy :rolleyespony:
