Worst Pony Name? (11 Year Edition)

G3 had its fair share of odd (if not outright dumb) names, but IMO Twirlerina takes the cake.

I used to have her! Unfortunately, her name made my parents think of fart jokes. :rolleyespony: I was a bit too happy to sell her when I thinned my collection.
god i am always amused when in children's media when they cant think of any female name they just take a random word and add an ''-ina'' at the end, it always ends up sounding so dumb my username is more of less a parody of that since i always find these names amusing

Or "-ia" (fairytopia, mermaidia), or even just "-a" (a lot of real life examples of a boy's names being turned into a girl's name by adding -a, including mine). It always has to end in -a. I've noticed this trend enough that, and I'm being completely legitimate here, this is one of the reasons I want to change my irl name.

Don’t worry, it’s funny. Even my daughter at 3 was ‘what’s a pinkie pie?’

Heh and who can blame her. I guess that MLP has been going on for so long that it has become very difficult to come up with decent names.

But then again, even early G1 ponies had some truly bad names. Like the recently mentioned "Pillow Talk", I mean...urgh. I've mentioned it before but "Pina Colada" just baffles me: not only is the pony's color not even remotely that of the drink as we are talking about an alcoholic cocktail...

Speaking of Tropical Ponies, the also horrendously named "Tootie Tails" fits the pina colada theme much better, from the color to the pineapple symbol.

I mean if we're going to bring the juxtaposition of themes/names versus designs, I'd say Galaxy is a pretty big offender there. I love her but her being all pink just makes no sense.

In the cases I mentioned, the mismatch between theme and name is by far the least of the problems. Naming any pony after an alcoholic cocktail is way worse. I can see how the mismatch of names and themes could happen, they have many ponies to pump out and did not think much about how to name them. After many "pink" this and "rainbow" that, they could just slap a name on it and as long as it's not horrible, it'd fly. But "pina colada" as a name of a child's toy? That's just absurd. Especially since at this point in time, I don't think you even had adult collectors so it wasn't even a tongue-in-cheek kind of wink at them.

I think they were just running out of ideas, and having a toy or other children’s item named after an alcoholic drink wasn’t as frowned upon in the ’80’s. For instance, in the ballet, the nutcracker, they often have mint juleps danced by 5-7 year olds, and jelly belly had pina colada flavor as well as some other candies. While I agree that I don’t particularly care for the names, I don’t think they were meant with any ulterior motive. Kinda of like crayons… I really don’t think they meant to be racist by having a crayon called ‘nude’ back in the ‘80’s. I know it doesn’t make it right and glad things have changed, but fact is, what was considered acceptable now is far different than what was acceptable back then.

I'm sure they had no ulterior intention at all. It's just an awful choice.

That they were running out of names was obvious and to be expected as there are a lot of ponies and at some point, it becomes extremely difficult to come up with names for them all. Hence the one million and one ponies that are variations of "pink" and "rainbow".

Or the many rewordings of twilight sparkle! ^-^ I don’t know why they didn’t just reuse names from former generations and in g1, they could have stuck with flowers, candies, and fruits

Honestly I wouldn't worry too much about them having references to adult content. Have you seen some of the stuff that came out of the My Little Pony Project? They had whole thing to support women, Junko Pony was a big part of that. Junko Mizuno is an NSFW artist, and to be honest, even the original artist for the G3 box art turned out to be a pinup artist. As far as I'm concerned small references to adult content here and there are just part of the brand.

The Pony Project is aimed towards adult collectors, though, not really the kiddos. Though, even in that regard, some of them do go, uhh, a bit too far. The flayed pony and the fetish pony were certainly... interesting choices. As for Pina Colada, I don't think it's much of an issue, as a lot of non-alcoholic beverages are piña colada flavored. I certainly remember drinking virgin piña coladas as a kid.

It brings to mind...a pie made of pinky fingers.
She needs a successor named Lady's Fingers. Lol

Trailblazer by itself is a perfectly good name. Add Hitch, and it becomes overdone.

Ditto above for Pink Sunsparkle.

Rocky. She neither has a boulder, nor boxing gloves. What was with so many G2s not matching names and designs?

Babies Susie, Katie and Billy. Like what?

G1-
Swirly Whirly (reminds me of that prank)
Chuck E Cheese

G3-
Tink-a-Tink-a-Too (too long of a name)
Razzaroo- (reminds me of razzies) lol
I love how Razzaroo's name doesn't even match up with her cutie mark or her personality lol :lolpony:

Another vote for Tink-a-Tink-a-Too here. I think the most annoying one I remember from my childhood is Toola-Roola. What a dumb name for a pony that was basically designed to be my favorite, lol. When I was a kid I was all about pink and rainbows and art...Well I still am I guess.

Also Steamer. Brings back Urban Dictionary memories.

Another one I've never really been a fan of is Yum Yum. Love the pony though.

Wasn't Toola-Roola's name like a play on an Irish song?

Up, up and away. For me it sounds a little bit weird. It's not a name, it's a phrase. Imagine someone calls her, like "Hey, Up, up and away, what's up? Up, up and away, come over here" etc.

Interesting, I didn't know that.

I don’t know why, but snookums. I even hate how it sounds in my head. Also, barnacle. I would be so pissed if I was named barnacle.
