Hi there, my mistake, as I thought your message implied that your list had not been completed yet because of technical problems. If it's good to go as is, then no problem :) This is why we remind and check numerous times throughout the event. ;)

Hi everyone! I've had several people ask to know more about our exact financial goals, and how those goals break down. I'd like to take the opportunity to share with you all just how much it takes to keep this place going year after year, and show you just how crucial your donations are to keeping this community up and running.


MLPTP Costs for 1 year:

Web hosting: $1000
Forum software licenses: $60
LLC Registration: $300
Taxes: $500
Tax professional / accountant: $400
Financial bookkeeping programs: $360
Prizes: $200
Fundraiser shipping: $400

TOTAL: $3,220.00

Why Does the MLPTP Need to be an LLC?

First, let me reiterate that when I became the owner of the MLPTP in late 2019, it was sudden and unexpected. But there was no one else willing to take it on when the previous owner departed. While I am willing to put forward the effort and time to keep the community going, having been permanently disabled since the age of 17 means that I cannot support the MLPTP from my personal finances. In fact, to do so would mean jeopardizing my eligibility for things like my health insurance. The only way to do that in a proper legal sense is to have all finances run through MLPTP LLC.


You Put in SO MANY Hours Working for this Site, Don't You Get Paid at All?

I do not, and neither do the mods. We're just here for you.


Are There Any Ways to Cut Down Costs?

This budget as is bare-bones as it gets. We have postponed several other features that we were hoping to be able to bring to you, but as of now have not had the necessary funding to make it happen.

My day job is in digital communications, graphics and web design and people do seriously underestimate the cost of these things! Your work is incredible and this little corner of the internet is my happy place!

I was wondering about the financial breakdown, too! I didn't realize it was so much! But reaching halfway there on such a large bill is so inspiring :ponylove:

For those also curious about the 'LLC Registration' bit, I googled it- you have to renew an LLC every year! Crazy! :shock:
 
One last donation. I've had a lot of extra expenses come up this month that was unexpected so I am maxed out. No Ponies for me for a while. But that is ok.

Unfortunately, there are several hoops that small businesses have to jump through--they certainly don't make it easy! The good news is that I didn't need to hire a lawyer again this year to facilitate all the initial LLC registration and setup stuff. And yes, we do have to pay the registration/renewal every year, as well as income tax, and tax for being "self-employed." o_O


In other news, we're over the hump at 65% :) Keep it up, everyone! <3
