Have you ever heard of Junebug or Cabana Rain?

No? Me either, but guess what! Those are officially trademarked names for MLP under Hasbro according to this puppy: U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
That's official. So, what can we do with these trademarked names that Hasbro either hasn't done anything with in years, and has let expire, or has yet to do anything with?

We can join in on an awesome creative contest! :wow1:

Ok, so the bottom line is: Hasbro has certain trademarks kept for MLP accessories, playsets, and ponies. Some are expired, some are still live. A lot have never been used, but are so fun and creative! Here's what this contest is all about:

  • If you enter the contest, you get to pick a name out of the list of unused but trademarked pony names. Only one person per name, so step up and sign up for your favorite name before it's taken!
  • With that name, you will design a backcard based on the templates provided below! (This includes coloring the pony, making the symbol, and deciding on a background story and personality, which you will put on the fake (electronic) backcard.)
  • We will then have a members voter poll up to determine which pony is everyone's favorite (i.e. which one they would buy if they were really in stores).
  • There will be two winners. First and second place!

Of course, this is a contest of creativity, but you don't have to be a world-class artist to participate. All you have to have is MS Paint or some other image editing/illustration software. You can download the backcard provided and use the image editing software to color your pony, draw the symbol on her, and write out the backcard story!

GUIDELINES

To join the contest, all you have to do is post the pony name you want to choose (post in this thread). See the list below for which pony names are still available. Only one name per person, so post soon once you pick to ensure you get your favorite name!

Then you will download the blank backcard provided. You may make adjustments to the backcard template, but to avoid getting people to vote for the backcard artistry rather than the pony design, make sure not to get too fancy or far off from the original... although I certainly am not discouraging enhancements. :) If you're unsure, feel free to send a PM with questions. Color changes and additions are welcome, but what we don't want is starting over with a backcard on your own. Hope that makes sense and doesn't step on too many toes.

Start designing your pony. Fill in the backcard with a story showing your pony's personality, and also make sure to color your pony and draw a symbol for her as well. Feel free to add a cute companion (such as something similar to Spike or the Bushwoolies). The only requirements are that you have to follow are: (1) Pony is colored with a symbol and (2) Backcard story (anywhere from 3-6 sentences.) (3) Size of electronic backcard must not be larger than 800 pixels high, 600 pixels wide, (4) Pony's name must be printed on the backcard, and (5) use the provided backcard, but feel free to alter it to your liking, but don't veer too far from the original.

DEADLINES

Post in this thread anytime before close of contest to reserve your pony name.
(Check list to make sure the name is not already taken.)
Post your backcard in this thread to enter, anytime before January 5th.
Voting will be one week long, starting the 6th of January, ending the 13th.

I love this game!! I had so much fun making my entry last time!! :] Thanks for running this contest again! But I won't join this round, so more newcomers will have a chance to try it out. Good luck, everyone! I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with.

of course Rainbow Wishes was used as well, just not as a pony (this would be the "and accessories therewith" listed in the trademark):

really? does it matter?


there were so many G3 ponies, it was hard to keep up. props to you for either knowing off the top of your head, or looking them up to double check. I personally just want to design an original pony with a cute name.
