So, this is in relation to the other thread called "Disintegrating Hair Syndrome." I don't want that to happen to my customs even if it is in 10-30 years. Therefore, I had a conversation on Etsy with a supplier. I wanted to make certain their hair was nylon. There were claims it was BJD hair made from polyurethane. I don't want to list the whole convo, as I feel bad enough doing this, but does this seem legit?
"Our original fiber is high temp nylon silk. We paid to have it extensively tested, and then we sent the result to our competitors asking them to cease and desist with their false claims. The old timers were obsessed with discrediting the hair because ... was a serious competitor in the doll hair market. No other hair seller had hair like it to compare to. They eventually faded into the background for us after about 4 years of harassment.
Unfortunately during the pandemic the small manufacturer we worked with did not fair well, which is why our ... hair (original) is being phased out and discontinued. We narrowed our listings to one single listing of the ... hair to make it easy for those wanting to stock up on what we had left of the original hair we started with.
We were blessed nearly 2 years ago to obtain a contract to become the exclusive dealer for .. nylon. This manufacturer provides high quality nylon hair for MGA, Hasbro and now many Mattel new doll lines. All the Rainbow High dolls with incredible hair, styles, curly, braids, in the stores, we have the exact hair. With exception of the s-curl, don’t mistake for curly, are pure nylon. S-curl is in fact polypropylene, a very high grade."
This is not the only company I buy from. I want nylon, mostly because I know if it is nylon it won't disintegrate, as the going theory (I think) is that DHS is caused by Hasbro using polypropelyne for some G3s and maybe some G2s.
Should I be concerned? This company sells "low-temp nylon" but I am wondering why they have so many colors others don't, especially metallics, why people say their hair is easier to work with, is it made of something that will last?
EDIT: I contacted the company and they assured me all my purchases will last beyond my lifetime. I believe them. I also went back and edited the name of the company (smacks forehead).
If, after a while, no one has any questions or insights, maybe the mods should delete this thread. But I'm posting the private convo anyway, for now.
