Hi
I have seen today's generation of yong girl's all turning to Brat's Doll's now not MLP G3's .
which is Bad for Hasbro :( . as the MLP G3's may end up beeing stoped all together. if Hasbro find out all the girls are turning a way from mlp's :( .
because of the new Brat's dolls beeing releast with new out fit's and big lip's and so on.
am afraid that's it for G3's  shame...

this is due to a fact that MLP G1's came out befor the G3's did and so today's yonger generation don't Know what a true MLP is. and so their for G3's are beeing turned away from yong girl's around the glob. as they are it seem's turning to brat's doll's in stead well slowly turning to them  .

I would hate to see if by next year Hasbro stop making MLP G3's. :( due to the compertishion of the Brat's Doll's winning and Hasbro losing.

I hope this won't happen. unless Hasbro come up with new more different poses and outfit's for the ponies to wear. :)

I think Hasbro will lose to Brat's Doll's as Christmas and the new year come around it ll be Brat's for Christmas list's for all girls around the glob so I think .

would you think this be sad  if Hasbro suddenly decided that the yonger Generation of little girls are not buying MLP G3's. any more because i think this could happen may be not now or early next year but soon it will I recon.

as from what Ive seen every time I go shoping for MLP G3's. the Iles that have MLP's on them. are still full to the rafters with New and old MLP's still un brought. and the iles with brat's on them are beeing sold. so it look's like the end for MLP g3's  this makes me feel sad. that may be next year. or the following year Hasbro will stop making MLP G3 ponies due to all the Girl's likeing the Brat's Dolls.
as Hasbro are in compertishion with them. :(

sorry I have to say this as it's true some of what Ive said about the G3's the truth is the G1's bit. i wrote .
-----------------------------
saying little girl's don't know what a MLP realy is unless they have seen a G1 mlp befor which is true .

Uhm, There's nothing to worry about, you know. MLP is selling great, and it keeps exceeding Hasbro's expectations. It's really popular!!

And I don't think a girl has to see a gen1 to appreciate gen3. I've seen girls playing with gen3 just like I used to play with gen1 when i was young, and I was sure those girls had never seen a gen1 ever before.

Gen3 is doing great and it will continue to do so for at least another year, so don't worry too much about this!

none

then what about the Brat's Doll's ?

they could still make MLP G3 slide down hill for Hasbro  may be not yet but soon one day.

I also think that the US market for ponies is much higher than the UK one, mainly because of the high price and small amounts of ponies we get (lack of Target Exclusives, other exclusive ponies)

If you look at the number of US collectors compared to UK collectors on this board alone, it may explain why the market for ponies in the UK is 'lower' than in the US.

However, i have gone back for ponies before to find them gone, from small retail shops. I don't think bratz will ever take over MLP.

Personally i think bratz is part of whats wrong with the young kids of today. 7-12 year olds playing with these, frankly ****ty dolls is what i feel to be the main reason that teen pregnancy rates are soaring, along with the highly sexed new videos, especially seen in hip hop (when did 50cent last release a song that wasn't sexually explicit!, and he has a young fan base)

I'm only 17 myself, please don't think im against everything in the world today. I just remember being 7 wearing dungarees, playing with my 5-6 gen1's and littlest pet shop and getting mucky in the garden. Now kids that ages are wearing mini skirts, halter tops and high heels. They even make bras and thongs for children as young as six (i believe its paedophilic to make 6 yr olds a thong or bra, they do not need them!)

Wow, what a rant, sorry!

Well, we do all have to realize, MLP are NOT going to be made forever. To think so would be really naive.
But it won't be because of competition from Bratz dolls, it will be for the same reason they died out in the first place - the kids who played with them when they were young were growing up and losing interest, and Hasbro wasn't producing enough new, fresh ideas to keep building interest from a new generation.

Right now I think MLP's are doing great.
I mean every time I go to my local TRU the shelves are almost empty unless they just refilled them that day.
While the shlelves with Bratz are full all the time (don't know if the staff at TRU refill those every day - could be)

They will stop making ponies. Ofccourse. But I don't think that will happen any time soon.
I mean - look at the G2's. They were in product from 97' too 02'. That is five years. And they did bad! They G3's are way more popular and should stay more than the 3 years they have alredy been out in stores.

Other thatn that I must say that to young girls today the G3 ponies are the REAL My Little Ponies. Maybe these aren't as captivating as the G1's. But they don't know anything else and therefor do not care. If they don't like G1's it's not because they want G1's insted of G3's.

Cheer up. Be happy the time they are still around. And when they stop making them - well then there's time to catch up finaly ;P

Hi

Hi

I always see little girls with ponies when I am out, or picking out ponies in the pony aisle. I think they are doing really well, and all the different styles, pegasus, glitter, scented, offer alot of choices and they are alot cheaper then bratz dolls and more affordable. I think MLP is here to stay, and I like some of the Bratz dolls but I don't think ponies have to worry about being put out to pasture.

Just my opinion, Kat

re

I would think with the number of collectors out there, particulary the ones who buy 2 or each (1 for display 1 to open) Hasbro will keep them going for atleast a few more years. I for one hated G3s for the longest time. Now I find myself trading away my G1s for G3s.

Hmm... I'm not sure that's the case. There are actually quite a few UK collectors, and I think the disparity in numbers is more attributed to the vastly different populations rather than the number of collectors, and I suspect that the proportions are approximately the same.

I actually think that MLP are selling really well. There is merchandise all over the place, I frequently see little girls buying the ponies, and the shops are always sold out!

Plus, I'm fairly sure Bratz have been around longer than the G3s? Not certain though. But I don't think Bratz will be the deciding factor, though the line will end at some point in the (hopefully far) future.

I agree with the proportion reason, however, there doesn't seem to be a huge amount of UK collectors, even with it being much smaller than the US.

This is probably why caramel crunch seems to think the line will end soon. I myself, do not see many people buying the ponies in my stores, and there isn't usually that many in anyway. Its easy in the UK to think the ponies are on there way out, as there is simply not as many of them as there is in the US.

You have the points programme, you get new ponies first, exclusives etc, also your ponies are cheaper, so the market probably looks hugely better from a US viewpoint, than in the UK, where you get one tiny shelf in a toy store.

Um... you do realise I'm UK too, right? I have the same prices as you do and the rest! :)

I do see a fair you young girls buying ponies, or trying to persuade their parents to let them buy one, especially in TRU. We are behind, yes, but the ponies are still selling well. And I do see some shops with large ranges (TRU and Dominoes come to mind. Some Toymasters as well). Woolies still suck, but they do seem to sell for the most part.

And they may seem expensive when compared to the US prices, but the price hasn't gone up since the early 1990s, so I was rather impressed when they first came out!

There are more UK collectors than at first appear. A lot of them are no longer active on the boards, or stick to the UK group, but they are still there and buying ponies.

I see the ponies selling in woolworths way more than brtz. Buit once i saw a girl ask for a pony and her dad weas like urgh thats cheap and nasty. you want a bratz doll instead.

Yeah, i was just addressing US collectors in general, saying how the markets must look better over there.

My TRU is really far away, so i don't see any of the ponies there, i only see them in woolies, a little independent toy store, and toymaster if i go to york. I hardly ever see people buying ponies, and as you said, woolworths does not have a big range.

If caramel crunch is in a similar area, without a nearby TRU she may see the pony market in a similar way to me. Obvioulsy through seeing these forums and ebay, and the ever churning out of ponies Hasrbo does, i can see its going as strong as ever.

I don't agree with caramel crunchs original statement, but i can see her reasons for thinking it :)

i have too much time on my hands (google)

Just to give some perspective- I think that there are quite a few UK collectors (proportionally). Keep in mind that the US is ~5 times bigger in population- the UK has ~the pop of California, Texas, and NY city.
I think if you added up the collectors from those 3 areas, they would be similar (if not much smaller) than the UK'ers on the board.

Also, mlp doesn't have to be #1 to stay in production- if that were the case, only the top toy would stay in the market more than a year or two. I think there is room for both (even if I don't particularly care for the bratz dolls).

I think hasbro made a really good move bringing back the G3 20 years after the G1s. Think about it all the little girls that played with them when they were little are now having kids of their own. I have a 5 yr old and will not buy her Bratz dolls, i personally think they are giving the wrong idea to young girls.....note barbie isnt that far behind and i dont generally buy barbies for her unless they are the fairytale types. I would rather buy her a pony because i played with them when i was little. I may be a little biased being as i am also a collector but i would like to think most 80s women would do the same.

I see honestly the ponies selling a lot better than Bratz for much longer. Bratz are more expensive for one thing, so parents, when shopping, are more likely to pick up something maybe they remember from childhood, that costs less, and honestly, I think the lack of controversy in the ponies will lead them to buy the pony over the bratz doll most of the time.

Sure the Bratz dolls sell well right now, they are still fairly new, ponies are too yes, but ponies aren't as "trendy" so to speak, they are timeless in a sense. And with less direct competition, Bratz dolls aren't competing with ponies, they are competing with my scene dolls, barbie dolls. Do they have their own ponies now, ya, but that is just a short part of the line I bet, and they aren't nearly as playable as ponies.

Of course, this is all just my speculation as well, so basically I'm just blowing hot air, but hey, I really think the ponies were the way to go.

Remember, not all UK collectors come here, there are loads of very quiet UKer's who just enjoy being outside of communitys.

I really don't think that Hasbro is going to be pulling MLP from the market. They are pretty much unchallenged in an animal-only line for girls, Bratz, Barbie, Strawberry Shortcake, etc, are all DOLL lines. MLP is pretty much the only popular line of animal-figurines for girls (at least in WA at Target it is!).

Just because in the UK sales aren't doing too well, doesn't mean they aren't in the US! Oftentimes I'll go to Target (which reminds me, I must go soon), and the ponies will be nearly gone. Or TRU, many-a-trip they have VERY few MLPs. The Bratz section always looks fairly full, as does Barbie. I don't think they restock more frequently or anything, I think that MLP is slightly more popular amoungst little girls than Bratz.

When I was little, I preferred animal-shaped toys to people-shaped toys, which is why I have so many Beanies (not the doll-beanies, animal beanies) and stuffed animals, I thought that animals were cuter than people. o_O I think that a lot of girls also like animals better than people, because they just give off a sense of not-judging, dolls just seem too much like real people.

I don't think we have any fear of Hasbro pulling the MLP line soon, they already have the 2006 year planned, don't they? Thus, they'll produce all the scheduled ponies, and they'll most likely have the 2007 releases planned as well during 2006. Hasbro knows better than to let Barbie/Bratz win out over MLP, once MLP pulls out of the market, it may be difficult to find a suitable form/shape (as in, the G1/G2/G3 molds) and new, fresh ideas for a G4 line. If they keep G3 going, they can continue with the current sets (Dream Design, Sunny Scents, Perfectly Pony, etc.) without seeming to copy a previos generation.

Im not quite sure why people thin the UK sales arnt going very well. Every shelf i se that is stopcked up is cleared within a few days!!

I must live in a pony hating area!!!
