"Sew cool!" sewing appreciation thread

Looking for Crystal looking eyes for some mini plushies, these are the best I've found so far, but this color selection is not cutting it. I'd be absolutely in love with them if there could just be a few more colors... But no, because apparently whatever I'm looking for is simply not allowed to exist. Like, I still haven't found any purple polar fabric, because the store that was supposed to get them at the end of last week, didn't get any, cause before it was impossible to sell, but now there's a shortage... For some mysterious reason. And now this? This is starting to get a bit ridiculous.View attachment 78902
Sorry, I've posted an unusual amount of rants today... I didn't take my meds in the morning, if that makes it any less bizarre.
I understand! I hate it when I can't get craft supplies. Mybuggest gripe is that it's rare to find a 10mm gem with an AB coating, and that's the size I need to make twinkle eye customs :/

Lol, why is it always the eyes? At the moment I'm painting the back of 8mm blank safety eyes rainbow, because I'll never find ready made ones. And then I have these up there. I'd happily make them all myself, if that was what it took. The problem is, that even the blank ones have pupils, and well... I need these for twinkle eyes as well, and I've never seen one of them have pupils. The fact that they're round could be forgiven (by me at least), if they had just four or five more colors. But no, they're like oh, you wanna make a few Mimics as gifts? How about some blue and pink eyes, that are pretty, but (for this purpose) useless? Hehe

You could make a negative mold and recreate them using UV resin!

I'm trying to get material to make silicone molds for several projects, but for some reason I can't find any locally or semi-locally, and the shipping is astronomical. :( I'm not planning to give up, but it's a process...

That's because the fabric is expensive for the independent shops. So they can't have as many sales and then the bigger stores out compete with frequent sales or coupons.

For really hard to find stuff, would it not be possible to have a US friend help and send it as a low value gift?

I hate how craft and or fabric shops have become so rare irl. I have to buy most of my materials online.

Same. We have one little quilt shop a few towns away that has a lot of fabrics, but other than driving all the way over there, I have to take what I can find at Michaels or Joann. :\

I’m pretty grateful that my small town has TWO local small fabric shops. I know how rare that is especially these days. :purpleheart:

I can sew buttons and repair clothing. My mother tried to teach me when I was younger, but I wasn't interested. Ah, the stubbornness of youth! Time proved her right that it's a useful skill to have.

Back in 2008, my brother-in-law was getting married (now divorced) and my daughter was a Junior Bridesmaid. I took the excess fabric from her dress and made a matching one for her doll. If I can find the external hard drive where the photos are stored, I'll post a picture.

Still in the same boat, and I'm starting to feel like I'm going mad or something.
I mean how to fabric stores honestly go
,,yeah, we don't have a single shade even close to purple, but I can offer you 50 shades of warm pink, how bout that?" <3

My fabric store had absolutely no fleece the other day. I’m finally motivated to make a pony and couldn’t even find the simplest thing I needed.

I get the struggle

I saw some lime green, and I think, I have the stupidest idea of my life, but I might just go back for 3 or so meters, and make a giant :mimic:, cause why not.
I just came across these giant sew on gems on the internet a few days ago, and they're begging for an irridescent coating, and some lashes.
I don't know what I'd do with her tho. Like, I kind of want to make her, ok I actually feel like I NEED to make her, but I have a pony room in my parents house (cause they have a whole empty floor they don't use, and I live in a shoebox), not a whole pony house. I don't think my parents would apreciate a life size green horse (propably shortly followed by a whole herd of other colorful horses, knowing myself) in their home. It does sound really funny thought. It also kind of sounds like my dream home tbh.:rofl:

What about a large TE pony mask for Halloween? lol

Did you ever check second hand shops for lightly used (not pilled up) fleece pullovers and blankets? That might be a source for purple.

Nooo, I messed this one up... I cut it out before embroidering it

I was already on kind of a timecrunch, cause I wanted to make this Sweet September for my dad's birthday (I'm also making one for my mom before we fly off to the UK Ponycon together, and I wanted to make them matching birthday ponies with magnets in their hooves, so they can "hold hooves"). Now I gotta correct this, and I also wasted the fabric...

It doesn't have to be wasted! [ENGAGE EDUCATION MODE] All you need is a backing fabric (in this case, I would say some basic white cotton muslin would work well, it's thin, soft, and cheap, but doesn't stretch so you can get it into a frame. Frame up the muslin, then lay your cut pieces on (be sure the correct side is up.. I noticed your finished plush earlier had visible seam markings, which you could put on the inside if you don't want them to show). Do a running stitch all the way around the edge of your fabric to secure (baste) the piece in place. Then embroider through both fabrics. When finished, snip your basting stitches, then trim away the muslin from the edge of the inside of the design, leaving a small amount of the muslin under your embroidery.
If you have funds to spend, you can also buy and use tear- or wash-away stabilizer as a backing fabric. Most professional embroidery is done this way, because stabilizing your fabric makes it easier to embroider and gives clean results. I hope that helps!

SHUTTING DOWN]

Aaaaah, I ran out of blue-gray fabric! Now I gotta interact with people to get more, cause I need it for a school project, so I can't just put it in the half done projects' shame corner:cry:
My half done project pile is almost as big as my 'to read' pile.

The tiny stockings are cute

This is dumb now that I think about it... but I heard that crochet can only be handmade. Like, knitting machines exist but not crochet machines. So, seeing crochet garments as fast fashion I'd really concerning :(
