What are you watching now?

In mourning of its upcoming Broadway closure, I’m watching the 25th Anniversary performance of Phantom of the Opera, because now I know I’ll never get to see it live.
It is sad, I probably never would’ve gotten to see it live anyway but still. Perhaps they’ll do a revival someday.
Does that version have Sierra Boggess?

It does! It's the version with Sierra Boggess and Ramin Karimloo. Karimloo's not my favorite Phantom vocal-wise, but he's easily my favorite Phantom overall just because he puts so much into the roll. I'm always in tears by The Final Lair, which annoys my cats a great deal because I cope with the heartbreak by annoying them for my own comfort.

Nice! I think she’s such an amazing Christine, he is really good too but I love Gerard Butler’s voice from the movie version :) so he’s my favorite phantom, especially in the deleted scene
Haha I bet the kitties secretly love it :lolpony:

Y'know? As much as people like to clown on Butler's performance, I think he really did well in the roll, especially considering this was his first musical role. He was my first Phantom so he'll always have a soft spot in my heart. And exposure to his Phantom has made me particularly fond of Phantoms with deeper voices, like Norm Lewis (bonus points for him also performing alongside Boggess, who, I'm with you, is an excellent Christine!).

I think a lot of people forget that when it comes to stage shows, each rendition has its own director and direction. So the same character while written the same can feel immensely different depending on who directs the show.

One of my favourite examples is Michael Ball and Imelda Staunton as Sweeney Todd and Mrs. Lovett. They are the two epitome of a horror couple but their performances are starkly different from Brian Stokes Mitchell’s Todd and Angela Lansbury’s Lovett. Two of the most beloved for the roles (short of the film’s Johnny Depp & Helena Bonhem Carter). But like how can you not get the old spine tingles when these two are together on stage together?

I'm sad too. I didn't know it was going away!! I've seen it before but not on Broadway. It's amazing but I am very partial to the original cast of Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman. It still gives me chills when I listen to it. I did however see Les Miserables and Jekyll and Hyde on Broadway many years ago.

Showing my age, but when I was in HS, this show came out called Buffy the Vampire Slayer and I never got to watch it. Recently I picked up the DVDs for seven seasons of it at a yard sale for $7. I am in the middle of season 2. It is exactly as hokey as a 90's-era show should be.
Buffy is my favourite show. I just rewatched it this year. Also, I was out of high school already when it came out.

E wanted to see it live so badly. I hope it comes back in their lifetime. I’m lucky enough to have seen it live 3 times. Original cast for the first time. (My mom even made a fancy dress)
what I’m watching now… YouTube, but I never know if it’s ok to mention specific ones on here. (Memes!)

It's mine too!! Love the show so much. I liked the Angel spin off too. Firefly was great too.

Yeah I don’t get how people think his voice was bad but I never knew that was his first musical! That’s pretty impressive:D
He was the first phantom I saw too(in band cause we played music of the night), but I had listened to the original soundtrack many times before that
Oh that’s cool, he’s got a really good voice! I hadn’t seen her perform with other phantoms except Ramin and John Owen Jones :)

Wow 3 times? That’s so cool! Were they all different casts?

Sorry if I’m talking about it too much haha, I love musicals and phantom is one of the best

Never apologize for something you’re passionate about! (Especially Phantom, because it’s my favorite musical too, bar none.)

Yes. Each a different cast. The original, then in 1998 in San Francisco, and then again in Portland 2002 (?). I got to see Cats, JCS, Music Man, My Fair Lady, and my dad sang in a small production of The Messiah. My family doesn’t do sports, lol, we made up for it with so much else.

We’re watching ‘Splash’ and ’Blackbeard’s Ghost’. E is experiencing the old school.

Music Man is one of my favorites! I was in a “kid-friendly” production of it in middle school and fell in love with the 1960 movie. I should watch that again tonight!

Thanks :lolpony: I just didn’t wanna fill up the thread talking it if others aren’t as interested
Technically my favorite is Wicked but Phantom is an extremely close second

That’s so cool you got to see the original! And so many shows, that’s amazing :D I haven’t heard of the Messiah before but that must’ve been fun to see him in ^_^

Watching some marvel comics goodness

I love the phantom of the opera! I thought Butler was good too, there was only one word i think could have been sang in a diff note but i think people forget that theyre singing how theyre directed to sing. If they sing something in a certain note or way its bc they were told to. So if someone dislikes his singing due to how hes singing, thats on a director not him. I think he did a really good job! :D

Definitely dont apologize for talking about something you love! <3
