I think more variation would be all that would really matter to me. If anything, they might have bigger heads and smaller bodies. Chibi stuff seems to be pretty 'in' at the moment.

Cleaning her up you can use a magic eraser, just be careful of rubbing too hard over painted areas. You can find them in supermarkets ect. For rehairing, you could rehair her tail with anything and leave it removeable, so later on you could get the suitable colour and rehair her properly. Using...

As far as I'm aware, Cotton Candy is pretty common, as long as she's a regular concave foot. You can always rehair her in such a way the hair could be removed. Sounds like a great idea, I'd go for it c:
